media player support

i thought the livexp wim i made covered all my needs. well, i found one option missing. when i plugged in my samsung YP-U3 player, nothing happens and it shows up as an unknown device. In win7, it involved what i think was "MTP".
is this a service or a set of *.sys/*.inf?
Can anyone help me out?

It's difficult to say without having that player to test but all my players (iPod, iRock etc.) 'work' by showing up as removable drives where I can play the files with VLC, Winamp etc. in LiveXP.
Independent of PE, I don't like players that won't support standard media files (mp3, wav, mpg etc.) or require proprietary sw/services to access the device. There is often more friendly sw available via third parties e.g. iShuffle (works in PE) instead of iTunes (doesn't)

it doesn't show up at all in xp.
the "unknown device" earlier was from win7_pe project.(which i deleted, seeing how it crashs randomly.)
(and yes, i was foolish enough to move the file from there to xp to see if it would work...)

If there is any, that isn't from M$, then you need to include that in your next build, together with the appropriate inf.
Also not a bad idea, to mark down all other drivers, just in case any is missing in your PE.

I tried to do as you suggested, but i hit a snag...
the file in win7/8 won't work with xp, and when i try to find their
xp counterparts on the internet, i can't find "winusb.sys"
the list of files the player in question uses these files in 7/8:
the * next to the files are the ones i can't find.

Did you include their Inf files as well in your trial with LiveXP?

wpdmtp.inf was the one only one win7 showed me.
I don't know if they have a inf file with them?
(for clarity, i have no regular xp system to verify with,
i have been trying to get xp on there with no success...
therefore, i am trying to get livexp as close as possible.)

XP search can do that. On Win7 you have to use a third party search program like SuperFinder or AgentRansack.
Navigate to the windows\inf folder and search in it, for all files that contain the names of your sys files.

If you mean, if XP inf and Win7 inf are absolutely identical, in every possible way, the answer is no.

i filled in the spots, and when i run "startpnp" in my run box, i get a "install status: Mtp -> (null)"
Does this mean we're doing something wrong?

The differences are mostly in the fine print.
I'm unfortunately not familiar with LiveXPs startpnp and can't tell you what that output exactly means.
Amalux is your best source, for specifics on the internal workings of LiveXP.

I message amalux for the startpnp status.

Without having the device (or any MTP enabled player) to test, all I can do is give you basic guidelines. If you have a host machine, running XP, where this device is working; gather the drivers with Smart Driver Backup and attempt to import them with DIPE. You can use the manual import feature from PE desktop to start, if you are able to get the device recognized this way, we can automate the process easily enough.

If anyone is up for the task, either list the files and where they go.
Or, Zip' em and post them(i don't think mediafire will be shutdowned... )
