I made this tutorial due to researching countless forums and coming up with different answers to rectify this one issue that was giving me a hard time!

That issue was using Grub4Dos to USB boot the Avira Antivir Rescue CD ISO. As I tried to boot the ISO with the Grub4Dos Boot loader this error kept on showing!

Posted Image

So I made a video tutorial to show how I resolved the issue and re-made the ISO to allow Grub4Dos to boot it the correct way!

I tried to make it as short as possible but there was somethings I couldn't leave out due to a uproar of questions it would have brought to the table!

This site doesn't usually serve as a redirector to other sites. If you want to post a Tutorial, please describe here verbally step-by-step, what you posted in that video, and give some screenshots.

@Just_A_Novice

After watching 19 min 16 sec of the 30 min video you have prepared, here is what I feel -

If you want to be wider acceptability of your tutorial, go for a text tutorial first. If things are intricate & words fall short, post sceenshots but don't make it a Facebook page or a photo album. If these are not enough, then audio visual medium is the last resort. I am on an Internet connection where I have to pay for every bits & bytes transferred to & from the Internet. I feel that I have wasted paying for ~79 MB. The video quality was remarkably poor, even in full screen mode of my 14.1 inch laptop. There was a song playing in the background instead of any audio instruction!!! Funny. I couldn't make out ANY single key step out of the tut. You have UNNECESSARILY included details like downloading of all the softwares that you have used, every single click, copying of files & folders, extraction of files, installation of softwares etc. & a lot more. What the HELL? It irritated me to the extent where I was forced to click on the CLOSE button of the media player. Unless you are a reputed tutorial writer, few people are going to watch this kind of video tut, I fear. Come up with a nicely WRITTEN tutorial, please. This community is very friendly & receptive. You can expect a feedback then.

Oh such a shame, that you didn't like the tutorial. I guess it wasn't made with all the bells and whistles that your accustom to. I am new to this tutorial thing and I appreciate your feedback very much. However the way you express your feedback in this tutorial is quite entertaining and dramatic. I'm assuming that your possibly expecting a return on that 79MB that was wasted with your ISP, such a pity better luck next time. Oh yeah just to comment on the remarkably poor video quality in full screen mode. Well next time just switch from 360 to 720 in your YouTube player if that's not to much ask, I would hate for you to become hot tempered again over a user error. I do understand there wasn't any audio instruction, in my next tutorial there will be. I also understand that you dislike the effort I made to advise the audience of all the different tools I used to make everything work. You must realize that every end user is not as advanced as you might be when it come to topics of this nature. As I continue to make tutorials I will always keep those in mind who might be brand new to these Booting technologies. With that being said I will go ahead and admit that I am not a reputed tutorial writer as the Reboot.pro community already knows. By listening to you and plenty other senior members i'm hoping that I reach that level shortly. By the way Mr. Holmes you shouldn't let things irritate you that much, where you frantically close your media player due to a persons trial and error with tutorials. Just referring to my profile name explains a lot LOL. Anyways keep up the good work on Team Reboot and I'm looking forward to providing much better video tutorials for the Reboot.pro community in the future! Cheers!

I doubt that. :dubbio:
not that you won't soon reach a very good level :), simply MOST of the actual "senior members" - or at least one - yours truly, will never spend 30 minutes to watch a senseless video, thus it is very IMprobable you will get something to listen to. :frusty:

Video tutorials are IMNSHO ONLY useful as visual support to something that has ALSO, and MAINLY already been described textually.
Just think of the zillion links you used in your video and that can be clicked or copied/pasted from a normal TEXT tutorial.
Yeah, you put a nice notice about them links being in "video notes", only - being it aimed to "newbies" - you simply miss the basic info of WHERE THE HECK those "video notes" are. :w00t:

Think about the old dinosaurs  that want to actually LEARN from it by STUDYING it's contents and that may find useful to PRINT a set of instructions, add to them notes in hand writing, underline or highlight some key sentences/steps....

I have anyway a little small advice DO NOT CAPITALIZE or bold indiscriminately whole sentences or the whole post, the only effect you will get is to annoy some member (particularly me), see Rule #9:
http://reboot.pro/82/

You went through a lot of work to create that video but the result - unfortunately - is of no real use.
Notwithstanding it's length and complexity you did not even state the EXACT version of Avira Antivir Rescue CD and grub4dos you initially failed with.

User tefole (as well without mentioning the actual version) has posted a seemingly working menu.lst entry no more than three weeks ago:
http://reboot.pro/16004/page__st__12
iftitle [if exist /boot/Images/AntiVir/Avira.iso.gz && set AVIRA=/boot/Images/AntiVir/Avira.iso.gz] Aviran%AVIRA%

find --set-root --ignore-floppies %AVIRA%

map --mem %AVIRA% (hd32)

map --hook

root (hd32)

kernel /vmlinuz vga=791 initrd=initrd.gz ramdisk_size=99889 root=/dev/ram0 rw console=/dev/vc/4

initrd /initrd.gz
needing not any mod to initrd.gz.

Are they different versions?

Well next time just switch from 360 to 720 in your YouTube player if that's not to much ask,

That is toooooo much to ask for.

You must realize that every end user is not as advanced as you might be when it come to topics of this nature.

Well, I don't have any background in cosmology. Going by your logic, it is perfectly all right for me to expect Stephen Hawking to make me understand the contents of "A Brief History of Time" from ground up.

By the way Mr. Holmes you shouldn't let things irritate you that much, .........

C'm on, stay here for few days and your opinion might vary.

I'm looking forward to providing much better video tutorials for the Reboot.pro community in the future! Cheers!

Can you see that you are not actually listening to the suggestions?

This works for me, Avira extracted to folder "Avira" from .iso, untouched, to partition (hd0,1) on sd card (cfadisk, not truly relevant But) with G4D 0.4.6a.

grldr and menu.lst on active (hd0,0)

title AviranAvira
find --set-root /vmlinuz
kernel /vmlinuz vga=ask ramdisk_size=108178 root=/dev/ram0 rw console=/dev/vc/4
initrd /initrd.gz

Correction to above post: Could'nt edit.
All files extracted from .iso to root (hd0,1) not folder Avira else self check fails, it's late sorry.

Since i created a batch file to create my own multiboot dvd ISO with many free rescue cd ,i tried to add avira rescue cd but it doesn't seems to work infact i tried for example istructions above but when i enter the program it tells me "scanner cannot be found...." when tries to load updates

There's someone can tell me how to create exactly an iso (without sardu)?

I've extracted iso with 7zip,deleted isolinux.bin,isolinux.cfg,and boot.cat, copied grldr and menu lst with these instructions:
title AviranAvira
find --set-root /vmlinuz
kernel /vmlinuz vga=ask ramdisk_size=108178 root=/dev/ram0 rw console=/dev/vc/4
initrd /initrd.gz

and used mkisofs
mkisofs -R -l -b grldr -no-emul-boot -boot-load-seg 0x1000 -oC:ISOMULTIDVD4.iso C:ISOrescue_system-common-en

I realize this thread is just a tad bit old, and I apologize for bumping it up into the great wide open again, but I think the tutorial is nice though due to the background music I had a difficult time focusing on what was being explained. Might be a little too fast paced for the newbie or average user as well to follow. I am not a newbie, but I am trying to help someone online who is and in the process of creating the Avira Antivir Rescue CD this error has brought us to a standstill and I have tried several times myself to translate the tutorial into a written tutorial with no luck.

If anyone could provide a link to a written tutorial on how to fix this error, I would truly appreciate your time and efforts.

Thank you,

DonnaB

WHICH error?

Post #6 contains a valid menu.lst entry. (unless the version have changed greatly).

If you state and describe your situation, possibly starting a new thread, I am sure you will get some effective help, right now you are in the "I'm ill, Doctor. Help!" stage, JFYI:

Hi Wonko (The Finder) for finding and guiding me in the right direction. :)

That would be the "Self Check Failed" error. I realize now how I should have been a bit more elaborate with my verbiage. Many of the other threads I found on this nice forum concerning this error were linked back to this thread so I thought that would post my opinion to the OP about his tutorial. Yes. It is a nice tutorial for those who are well advanced with their computers skills and can visualize past the background music which I found to be distracting. I have created many tutorials for the simplest tasks for those who don't realize their screen "is" their desktop.

Thank you for the link to the standard litany procedure page. Every forum needs one of those that is as well written. Now just to get OP's to read it!

I'll start a new thread in the appropriate forum as soon as I find the right subforum to start it in.

Thank you for your kindness,

DonnaB
