File Name: Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro
File Submitter: fab
File Submitted: 30 Nov 2011

File Category: App scripts

Hi everybody,

Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro is a tool for computer technicians sold from EUR 45 (around USD 55 today).

This script is made for Win10XPE, Win10PE_SE, Win8.1SE, Win8PE_SE and Win7PE_SE. It has not been tested with other projects.

Although it is very easy to use, this version is mostly designed for professionals like computer repair shops and other power users who need to backup data from several users profiles at once or from an unbootable hard drive. It also allows performing direct disk-to-disk data transfers. So, you can backup, restore and transfer various files and settings like documents, pictures, videos, e-mails and so much more at once for every user profile on a bootable or not) system drive! Finally, all Fab's AutoBackup 7 versions can use VSS snapshots, allowing to copy files locked by other processes.
Regarding to Fab's AutoBackup 7, the Pro version has these extra features :
- Multiple user profiles handling at a time for backups , transfers and restore tasks (no need to log on with an account, make the backup, log out, log on with another account, make the backup, ...)
- Other hard drives than the current system drive can be selected. This feature allows data backup from damaged computer that would not start the usual way.
- Direct users data transfer from the old hard drive (slaved or USB mounted) to the new computer. If needed, you can create users accounts directly from the program's interface before performing the transfer.
The license has no number of users or number of computers limit. In other words, all the technicians in a company can use the same license on an unlimited amount of computers.
You will wonder how you could work without it!

I quote from the page:
http://www.fpnet.fr/...ntation&lang=en

This version is the technician's best friend. You can buy it on our online store. This licence is not user or computer limited and costs EUR 50.

I personally see 50 good reasons not to use it, but then, I am not a technician, I am notoriously cheap  and want no friends :w00t:, expecially if I have to pay to get them ;) (they would be mercenaries, not friends.... :whistling:).

Used the old version of fabs autobackup years ago at my old job. Best program ever for transfering files from one computer to another (aka moving customers files/settings from an old computer to a new one) or saving files off an unbootable machine (via PE) before a reinstall or repair attempt.

wish it was still free...but if your a repair shop $65 USD is quite reasonable for all the time this tool saves you.

@Wonko
You do not need to be sarcastic...

This tool is really helpful for tech guys (I am a tech myself).
I do not know any other tool like this one that can operate both under regular Windows and PE. It took me a while to make this app. It still takes a lot of time in adding functionalities.

If you are disappointed because it is not free, I am sorry about that. I guess that you do not work for free.

Just like home32 said, the cost is very reasonable for repais shops because it saves a lot of time.

Regards,

Fab

Well, I don't actually *need*, but I *like* to. :whistling:

Never doubted about the quality or usefulness of your app , and I am pretty sure you put a lot of work in it. :worship:

No, I am not disappointed :), and no, normally I don't work for free.

Just like home32 said, the cost is very reasonable for repais shops because it saves a lot of time.

I don't also doubt the reasonability of it's cost.

You were very nice to provide a .script for your Commercial app, but IMHO this is - since besides this you didn't even take 5 minutes to say "Hi" - nothing but a way to promote your app, i.e. it was not motivated by wanting to take part to the Community, nor to actually *share* anything, or try and help any other member with a problem.

There is nothing "bad" or "evil" in writing Commercial software and get money for it, but it should IMHO at least stated clearly, particularly here on boot-land reboot.pro where there is a "particular accent" on Freeware and Open Source.

I had to click on the link you provided:
http://www.fpnet.fr/...ntation&lang=en
to find out that the tool was Commercial.

My sarcasm is my own compensation (man doesn't live out of money only ;)) for the extra time you made me spend to get there and read the info you could have stated in your post.

The "issue" is (in my perverted mind) not about your tool being Commercial, it is only about the opportunity of having - for free - your app advertised here, a place where presumably quite a few technicians happen to pass by, i.e. not only free advertisement, but also targeted free advertisement.

The scope of my post was anyway EXCLUSIVELY to let the other "amateur" or simply "cheap" peeps like myself, know (without needing to get to your site) that they would need to fork from 50 € to get your nice app, and thus decide - in an informed way - whether to proceed or go somewhere else.

@Wonko,

You are right, that was not really fair to not tell directly what was going on about the cost. I did not think about it. Now, it is fixed, I have edited the presentation and added more details about the app. There no more link to my website. If people are interested in this utility, they can get the information they need within the winbuilder script.

Fab

Everything is fine and dandy then :).

The link to your site is anyway "carved in stone" inside my posts, which is good , so people can easily get to your website before downloading the .script (and only download it if they are interested in the tool and get a license for it).

Being cheap, and even if I don't pay for reboot-pro bandwidth, it is a small contribution to avoid waste of it and a (vane) attempt to limit entropy. ;)

Hi Fab,

I would like to post more on a positive note. Although I am not a technician, I have used an early (very old) Free Fab's Autobackup a number of times over the years and in January this year I bought your 4 Tech version. I don't mind paying for good software. I have not yet had a need to use it, but it is always there in my toolkit just in case. (I don't often buy commercial software, just like Wonko.)

That said, I would like to post a correction to your script.
Problem was that no startmenu shortcut was being created, a Desktop icon was made, but no Startmenu icon.

Was this:-
If,%pTextBox1%,Equal,True,Add_Shortcut,StartMenu,%pTextBox1%,,%pTextBox2%
Now corrected:-
If,%pCheckBox2%,Equal,True,Add_Shortcut,StartMenu,%pTextBox1%,,%pTextBox2%

There was also another problem, in that the script would not function at all and hung the Winbuilder process completely.
I fiddled around and eventually it worked and continues to do so. I don't quite know what I did to get it to work.

HTH,
BobxT.

Hi BobxT,

The fixed script has been updated. I did not have any trouble with it. My WinBuilder worked like a charm.

Thanks for your feedback,

Fab
