If the ISO won't fit in memory, then you will need to load a small OS that includes network support for the network adapter in the target system. i.e.
  • Boot to OS in memory via PXE
  • Connect to network under new OS
  • Prepare target HDD
  • Extract contents of ISO across network and place files onto hard disk partition (or just use 7zip and extract i386 files onto HDD across network)
  • Run Windows Xp Setup from the hard disk.
You could do this by making a small WinPE OS (e.g. cut down WinPE v3/win7 boot.wim file) and boot to this via PXE. Then use diskpart to partition and format the disk, then connect to a share on the network and copy the /i386 folder to the target hard drive, then run setup.exe from the hard drive. The Tutorial #3 on my website describes most of this but you will need to use a cut down version of WinPE and I am not sure you can get an in-RAM version down to <256MB, as for ftp it needs to be an in-ram OS (ramdrive) - maybe someone else can help on that bit? Once you have it working from a USB drive, copy it over to your ftp server.

This is still a derived question from this one (still unanswered/untested) #2:

Why not a RIS install?

If going through the "minimal PE 1.x" route, see also here:

If I were you I would attempt a jump in the past :w00t: and try the oldish batcher project by hooovahh :good:
