File Name: Emerge Desktop
File Submitter: FerrariGuy
File Submitted: 06 Sep 2011
File Category: System scripts

This is another Desktop Shell replacment based on the portable version of Emerge Desktop: http://emergedesktop.org/
& http://www.pendrivea...-windows-shell/ & http://sites.google....rted/the-basics

Currently tested in WinPE7_SE x86 edition, but I see no reason why it would not work in other builds....

I created this script because I needed to give a version of PE to a *user* who is just technical enough to use PE the wrong way, and I needed to hide lots of items from the user. Emerge Desktop makes that easy.

1. Peform a trial build w/ Emerge Desktop. Configure the shell using configure core / configure workspace / theme manager however you like. Save your theme. You'll find a "files" and a "themes" directory in the "Emerge Desktop" program folder on X drive. Copy these to a location where you can use them in your next build.

2. During your next build select the "themes" folder; type the name of the theme you want to be used as default (as you created it in your trial build & same as the directory names inside the themes folder); select a "scripts" folder if you have one; and select your "files" folder noted in step 1. Build.

Notes: Both the x86 and x64 version of Emerge Desktop are included, but the x64 version has not yet been tested. The script syntax should extract the x64 version correctly though. Emerge Desktop works *better* if Explorer is included as an avialable shell, (since things like Desktop.cpl are referenced) but it's not required. The script is still pretty basic, and would let you make mistakes like including the wrong folders, but it is v001 after all.

You don't need to stick with the portable version. In fact you can use the latest dev build (which is NOT a beta)

Just unpack the 7z file in any folder, create an empty themes.xml file in the same folder. Just start emergeCore.exe and all Theme and personal Files will "automagically" be stored in sub-folders with relative paths, making eD 100% portable and drive letter independent ;)

If you need further help you can always pass by the user friendly eD forum :)

TheHive: Yes, It goes in the "shells" folder as I'm sure you've already figured out.

Thanks Me_Too. If I get a chance to re-write the script, I'll probably try to set it up to dynamically download the latest Emerge Desktop shell which would make the script much smaller. Anyone should feel free (if they didn't already) to modify this script to suit them.
