I suggest to let LiveXP die. There are better (and supported!) solutions now like the XP track of nativeEx_multiPE.

Supported yes (your choice), better only in your mind. All your childish attempts to sabotage LiveXP only proves its superiority. If something is really better, it seems to me you wouldn't need to destroy the competition to prove it.

Nice easter egg, that picture made my day..

Thanks for sharing.

I suggest to let LiveXP die. There are better (and supported!) solutions now like the XP track of nativeEx_multiPE.

I like LiveXP. It is part of our history just like PicoXP. I am unable of keeping it updated but if other developers wish to keep improving the project like Amalux and Al_jo do as we see here, then I see no reason why it should be considered something as drastic as "dead".

There is enough room for several projects and preferences.

If I prefer seeing more projects supporting multiple sources: Yes.
Should we throw to the trash bin the effort put into all the other projects that are single sourced: No.

You see, for NativeEx_MultiPE to gather awareness it is necessary to improve some points.

For example:
- New users are clueless about what a NativeEx_multiPE is, a new more intuitive name should be adopted
- Screen shots are needed on your introduction post: http://reboot.pro/14250/
- Make it feature full, add as many app scripts as you can find so that people don't have to do that by themselves
- Publish it on the download portal. PicoXP was published but your multiPE project should also be there
- Keep it active, do improvements and ensure that it gets listed more often on the front page of the site
- Make it friendly as new users need guidance and easy tools that are not visually appealing and intuitive

Your solution is technically advanced and I salute your technical skills, however, gathering public attention depends in more than just good technical solutions. Following the same reasoning, would it fair to dismiss your project as dead because it has no screenshots?

My friend, let's let LiveXP live to fulfill its mission, and let's work to see multi sourced projects become the future one day.

Take care!

Start by looking under Shells->Explorer (Tweaks) and Components->Tweaks sections in 'tree view', left column of Winbuilder project interface.

hi friends,

I was somewhat preoccupied with the LiveXP project. I know it's old and no longer supported. But I think if it is offered as a download, it should be run with the current WinBuilder 082. Therefore, I have updated some scripts and capi.
I have write comments '2aCD' to changes, so you can found it.

In the !Fundamentals.script I've added variables to load the registry (%RegSoftware%, %RegSystem%, %RegDefault%). In order to run many Win7PE scripts without changes also in LiveXP

In the '3 - hivesFactory.Script' I have add fix for registry to run build also on XP-HostOS. The LiveXP-CD did not start with me, if the build is running on an XP host.

Here you can download the update-package for testing:

<< removed see below >>

For my tests now the project will work on XP and Win7 hosts with winbuilder 082.

Best Regards
2aCD

One remark:

Your code in !Fundamentals.Script

//2aCD Compatibility with Win7PE scripts

IniWrite,%ProjectDir%Script.project,Variables,#$pRegSoftware#$p,"%target_sys%CONFIGSOFTWARE"

IniWrite,%ProjectDir%Script.project,Variables,#$pRegDefault#$p,"%target_sys%CONFIGDEFAULT"

IniWrite,%ProjectDir%Script.project,Variables,#$pRegSystem#$p,"%target_sys%setupreg.hiv"

Does not define %Reg???% in the very first run when this is done. And that might bring some surprize for the starting user.
Immedeatelly working is

Set,%RegSoftware%,%target_sys%CONFIGSOFTWARE,PERMANENT
Set,%RegDefault%,%target_sys%CONFIGDEFAULT,PERMANENT
Set,%RegSystem%,%target_sys%setupreg.hiv,PERMANENT

Peter

BTW: I personally prefer %RegUser% against %RegDefault%, because it relates to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Yes, you are right. It's better with your lines. I have replace this in the UpdatePackage. :good:

I would also prefer %RegUser%, but RegDefault is used in many scripts.

Best regards

I have not looked at the 2aCD change (all due respect to his work), but be aware that Galapo, Lancelot have voluntarily chose WB 077 RC2.

The project and scripts have been tested and validated with him, with a building speed and all workaround WB bug.

It is good to continue to make live LiveXP, the best PE1 project, greatly improved and updated in http://theoven.org/index.php?board=7.0 project by the same team (the Oven),
With a result and stability even higher .

I would also prefer %RegUser%, but RegDefault is used in many scripts.

When you have a look into the multiPE project: Depending on PE1 <> PE2 / PE3:

%RegSoftware%=%Target_Sys%configsoftware

%RegSystem%=%Target_Sys%setupreg.hiv

%RegUser%=%Target_Sys%configdefault

%RegDefault%=%Target_Sys%configdefault

%RegSoftware%=%Target_Sys%configsoftware

%RegSystem%=%Target_Sys%config.system

%RegUser%=%Target_Sys%configdefault

%RegDefault%=%Target_Sys%configdefault

Not really a good solution. What you get is a project that does not play well with others around here. Plus, Gena is a project developed in a negative and closed manner. At reboot, we do not endorse such projects.

I see no reason why support for the most recent winbuilder shouldn't be added or avoided other than personal choice.

I understand that point of view, but I understand also the historical reasons (version compatibility, bug, wb 80 speed) for a project administrator.
and Gena project is really stable with WB 77 RC2 and most apps scripts are compatible with W7pese (share script) and with WB 80 or 82 ;)

My goal is that end-users can try out as many projects as they like and settle for the one that meets their requirements.

And some developers keep as goal to fence down their projects so hard that no other projects run.

That is the truth plain and simple. Not just for the case of Gena but for others as well. My job around here is to prevent "walled gardens" from happening. I want end-users to have options instead of "historical/futuristic" constraints and that is valid for any project.

I do not endorse the way how this gena project is developed.

easy guys. don't think we need to go down the whole Gena vs Live XP road. they are both good projects developed by good people. We all know LiveXP has been succeeded by 2 superior projects (MultiPE & Gena). but there is no reason it can't be made functional with the new WB version in case somebody wants to use it for educational/learning purposes like we have done with VistaPE.

I'm not trying to defend people, the choices made, to advertise or go back to old misunderstanding.
I just wanted to specified that LiveXP has evolved to Gena in relation to efforts made by 2aCD to make compatible LiveXP with WB 82.

I'm agree that they are many good projects developed by many good people :)
and each one tries to continue to improve its own, normal.

Chris

It looks like I've stirred up old wounds.
Sorry, that was not my intention.
I just wanted a project that is offered here for download, works with current tools. And it has not done for a long time.
I found this is not so good for "reboot.pro", general.

Not argue about it.

Thanks 2aCD for your work! :1st:

I think that it has been a hard task to find all the places where something to do.

When I tried to apply the new scripts to Amalux's LX.??? projects, there has been the issue that your script would overwrite (older) LX scripts.
Therefore I tried to find a solution to patch the existing LiveXP derivate projects.
And I used your "script map" as base.

The result can be found here: http://reboot.pro/fi.../174-pe1-4wb82/
