Hi,

I have tried several LiveXP projects and it seems that the Disk Management isn't working at 100% because it can't create and format disk partitions, it gives this error:

---
The operation did not complete because the partition or volume is not enabled.
To enable the partition or volume, restart the computer
---

Anyone know how to fix this? How?

TIA

Hi Dera,

Unfortunately no because i only see some reports of the same problem and no solutions. I know this is somehow possible because i have a warez LiveXP CD created using BartPE + XPE from a Windows Server 2003 source and this task can be done without any problem!

I think that it is not an issue of LiveXP. I have exactly the same result with nativeEx_multiPE XP track.

It is either an issue of PE1 or an issue of the mmc script.

Peter

EDIT: I just saw that with a (warez generated) BartPE it runs well.

Can you post the BartPE MMC plugin and I'll compare.

@pscEx
i think you misunderstood the post - as almost always

I think Rui Paz asked for the solution,
he has not got the solution.
If i understand right he hes got only an already built .iso where the Disk Management is working at 100%,
but he cannot find the reason.

Myself have tried to build many kind of PE1.x,
but i never was able to build one where the Disk Management is working at 100%,
i never was able to create or find a BartPE/XPE .inf or a WB .script or a simply plain .bat/.cmd which can create such PE 1.x.

The only PE 1.X - where this thing 'create a new partition, assign drive letter and format this newly created partition in one step' can work -
is only the 'factory made' "ERD Commander" or its descendant the "MSDart 5" what i have ever seen.

Did a quick test.

The problem is not that our PE1 can't partition or format a drive with drive management.
It can do it perfectly fine! However not without a reboot after the partitioning.

The problem seems to be, that (once again) a refresh / request to reread ...., is not working.
This can be caused by about everything. From not running service over missing files to registry errors.

Manually unmounting and mounting could be a quick and dirty fix.

Exactly, that is my experience, too.

Did you ever tried to build an explorer shell based PE1.x using w2k3 source
where this mmc partitioning thing works 100%,
or at least the partioning is successful in one step,
and where no need to restart the shell at all?

i mean e.g.MOA based on BartPE?
or
LiveXp where you let fxscrpt's RegFactory to correct the registry?

i have tried to build .iso images with both method
and i think that images work exactly the same way as Rui Paz's one,
but finally in every builds of mine remains the same problem:
have to restart(refresh) the shell.

of course using a third party file manager is also possible

The PE from Rui Paz. Works 100% in my tests, without any need to restart the shell or anything.

The tests i did were with PE1, i had already available. One XP based NaughtyPE and one XP based BartPE+XPE.

No tests were done, with any W2k3 based PE.

This sounds unbelievable to me,
since in my test the newly created partiotion's drive letter is not recognized in the explorer - in the shell's defult filemanager - unless the shell restarted.
Also Rui Paz reported (in PM) similar experience testing his iso.

I ran the PE in VirtualPC. Created a partition on an empty HD image and formatted it with FAT.
The driveletter became available and i created a folder to test, if it really worked.
Everything fine.

Hi Guys,

It seems that a FAT32 partitions is handled a little different, after creation and format if we right click on the partition and choose Open, explorer will open and will do file operations but opening the My Computer icon on the desktop the new drive will not show.

Checked again. Yes you're right. It doesn't work from explorer, just directly from disk management.

Hi,

I have found that we don't need to restart the shell only send the correct signals to the shell.
Try this file ExplorerRefresh.exe http://www.datafileh...d-2b9c531d.html, after create and format the partition (NTFS) plus add a new drive letter, run this file and wait a few seconds open My Computer and the new drive will show perfectly functional.
