Hi

I am using dos version of Norton Ghost 11.5.1 and windows 98 dos mouse driver [ mouse.exe ]
however, in my new asus motherboard somehow the mouse driver is not functioning.

Is there any recommended mouse driver for DOS ?

I have tried the following mouse driver but still does not work.
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/util_e.html

CTmouse CTMOUSE19.ZIP
Logitech mouse driver LOGI650.ZIP
MS Mousedriver V6.24 for DOS from 1988

Please advice and thank you.

Hi jtan,

does your mouse use a PS/2 or USB interface?

Many Greetings

There's an option in BIOS that allows you to load USB bios and mice into the PS/2 slots. Try that.

If you have a USB mouse then the first thing that you would need to do is enable USB support in DOS and I think there are some USB drivers for DOS but I am not sure if they are still available. I believe they are made by Panasonic or IOMEGA. I think the name of the drivers are USBASPI.SYS and DI1000DD.SYS and one or both of there are by Panasonic (I believe ) and as far as I remember, in your config.sys you need to have these lines:

dos=high
device=himem.exe
device=usbaspi.sys
device=di1000dd.sys

Then once you have the USB DOS driver loaded, you can try running mouse.com and that theoretically should do it. If you have a PS/2 mouse, you won't have to worry about loading USB drivers for DOS and simply running mouse.com should give you a mouse pointer in ghost for DOS. I remember, clearly remember typing mouse.com as well as "ghost" and it showed the mouse pointer. When the mouse driver loads, it greets you with a nice promising message. The mouse.com file used to come with Windows 98 I think but not sure about Windows ME.....

Hehe I even remember loading MSCDEX ages ago and I used to get excited about being able to access my CD-ROM drive in DOS and run "setup" B) to install Windows 95/98 haha :unsure:

Hi,

Thank you all for taking the time to reply.

I am using usb mouse.
1. When I plug it into PS/2 slot (with adaptor) the USB mouse will work on any machine.
2. When I plug it into USB directly on some machine it work or my new ASUS motherboard it does not.

I tried using Panasonic driver as Skyide suggested however, it still does not work : (

Does it include your new ASUS motherboard? Wouldn't that be the solution? :D Or is there no PS/2 anymore on your new machine?

Many Greetings

Did the USB driver load properly? Did you see the Panasonic copyright notice when DOS started etc? Also did you try mouse.com? If all that evaluates to yes then I am out of ideas :D

Hi jtan and skyide and Michael and Wendy,

I seemed to remember, reading the posts, one should research usb mouse dos win98.
I had that in the past. There was a solution, though at the time it seemed to only work for
one person out of two. If you're the 1, might work for you :D

Good luck ;)

edit:
I mean :quote:

Hi, Fred, I discovered that if you put the "hidusb.sys" file on your boot floppy and load it at the A: prompt in DOS, the USB mouse will then work in [DOS]. I figured this out when I tried to use a USB mouse in WIN98SE with [DOS-level] Drive Image and discovered that the PS2 mouse driver wouldn't work.

Hidusb.sys is actually a Microsoft USB driver originally from Win98 but included in later Windows versions, too: Just search your system for the file, and it probably will be there.
