Here is a piece of conversation between two persons ( A & B )

A: How do u spend your spare time?
B: Well, the little time I get out of my daily schedule, I spend it by browsing forums.
A: Browsing forums!!!??? Which forum(s) do u visit?
B: There are a few, but mainly there is one called reboot.pro.
A: R-E-B-O-O-T?
B: Yeah
A: What is it about?
B: (& here the confusion starts) .......it deals with a lot of system related stuffs.....can't pinpoint exactly.
A: Still, be specific. What is it about? (A repeats the same question). .NET, C, C++, Java?? Should be either or more of these.
B: No, not on any programming languages........or some standard technology. It's main focus is on configuring or tweaking the booting process of various OSes. Apart from that malware protection, tech news are also there.
A: Ohh (with a sigh of relief that he has got hold of the topic).... booting.... means cold booting, hot booting......I know that. How on earth even you spend your time on these stuffs!!! Make a wise use of your time. Time is invaluable. And if u don't get anything to do, simply SLEEP. At lest, it's good for your health. :smiling9: (ended with a wise smile)
B: (Giving up...) Okk..(with an innocent smile)

Now the above drama was acted in some place, some time in recent days. Can you people help Person B by giving a one-liner or two by summarizing & encompassing all the aspects which reboot deals with so that it can be explained to a layman?

I see the Reboot forum as a virtual Super-Wiki about "Booting"

Wiki: The user can get a lot of (mostly useful) answers to his questions.
Super-Wiki: The user can download something which can solve his issues.

Wiki: The user can share his suggestions / corrections.
Super-Wiki: The user can share his solutions.

Wiki: Nobody is forced to believe the answers.
Super-Wiki: Nobody is forced to use the solutions.

While I like concept of a Super-Wiki which deals with improving the booting process of various OSes, I wonder if it could be expanded to peripherals. For example, I have a USB flash drive that became spontaneously write-protected, and cannot reformat it.

I think that almost all what have been discussed here is costly and intersting.

Still haven't got my answer. psc's reply has a couple of shotcomings: it does not encompass all the aspects & not an one-liner.

I agree with Peter. It lead me to a number of possibilities. None of then were really enough on their own, but in total I was able to piece together a boot solution for my Equus notebook for Macrium. The Macrium Syslinux bootable would not work as packaged with my video Bios.

Ultimately I was able to tweak things to get something going. In totality your site has some unique articles that are not found elsewhere. More complete examples rather than snippets would help with acceptance and build more interest, IMHO.

Thanks for what you do.

A Super-Wiki is "unlimited", and needs not to be expanded!
But I understand your suggestion!

Well... What to say? Me, I like reboot.pro because I can get help with praticly anything (generally, my problem was already resolved on this forum) and especially, the boot. This forum as made me to explore alternative boot process to avoid problem with the boot (having Windows, Linux and Mac on a PC without problem on boot is praticly impossible but, with some modification with idea seen in this forum, all those system boot properly!)

The forum have the good name and say a lot for me about the web site and it have a very good community. What to say about the site for the person B? Like it say but with more specific information! I don't know what to say exactly but saying that we tweak with boot process is good and not only the type of reboot but also, what the computer will load at next boot? In which way? What version? Where? That is a part of the tweak we can do at the boot. And there is many thing we do here other than tweaking with boot! Special projects, security, emergency help, installation method and more!

I need to go sleep now, the person B will probably find what to say before I wake up...

Still, the challenge is on. No summarized reply is posted till now. psc's concept of Super-Wiki itself claims a whole paragraph.

Q.:What is reboot all about?

A1: If you need to ask, you won't simply be able to understand. :ranting2:
A2: A place where the interconnectedness of anything Operating System related is made evident.
A3: A technical forum focused on making Operating Systems (particularly MS ones) actually work the way they should. ;)
A4: A place with an unusually relevant number of nice guys
A5: Rule #1: You don't talk about reboot.pro, Rule #2: You don't talk about reboot.pro ....
For no apparent reason ;):

A reply to Wonko the Sane:
I agree with A1,A3 and A4.
A2 is unproven hypothesys, especially in connection with Kurt Goedel Theorem.
I do not understand A5. In A1-A4 author violates his rules #1 and 2 declared in A5.

The forum's main purpose is to help to find ways to boot a computer so that it can run one or more Operating Systems, utilities or applications.

A2 is unproven hypothesys, especially in connection with Kurt Goedel Theorem.

Sure  , noone asked for a proven fact, only for a plausible one-liner. :smiling9:

Anyway, and JFYI, the box on my table just said:

Meeow!

to express it's utter disagreement with you and Mr. Goedel.
(and BTW it is also in complete disagreement with Mr. Schroedinger and his experiments )

Most people fail to see the whole matter in a holistic, all-comprehensive, integrated view, due to their perception forced by education into the atomistic, individual and mechanistic narrowness....

I do not understand A5. In A1-A4 author violates his rules #1 and 2 declared in A5.

You see?
Paradoxes do exist, and you (and hopefully the cat in the box) have to live with that....

Maybe the Ice-Aged (80 years old!) theory of Mr. Goedel is no longer up to date, and beeing replaced by Wonko's Law?

Sorry I cannot understand Schroedinger's:
