Bootup and Shutdown
Posted 09 July 2011 - 02:28 AM
I'm read many topics here, and other sites, about imdisk.
I want to create a 250MB ram-disk that boots up automatically, and uses a HD image-file previously created with imdisk, that unmounts at shutdown and saves the updated ram contents to the HD.
My problem is that it rarely saves the updated ram to the HD at shutdown. It has worked once.
Also, at startup, I've had to delay the execution of imdisk by at least 30 secs via Task Scheduler for imdisk to work.
( I'm also using free RAMDISK software very sucessfully but it only creates a FAT32 file system. )
Vista Home premium 32 bit, NTFS, AMD 64 bit, antivirus disabled.

Note Vista Home doesn't have the Group Policy software :-(

I recall that while the Home edition of Vista does not have the Group Policy Editor, you can still utilize most of it's features via manually setting the correct registry keys. Group Policy Settings Reference.

Also, you could try this to enable the editor (some of the comments indicate that you can use the Group Policy Editor in Vista Home by setting the LmCompatibilityLevel regkey to 1), but I do not use the Home edition so I can't verify this for you. Good Luck!
