my OS is xpsp2 and it has been usb bootized with usboot.

I first noticed this when I tried to install first defense ISR, it indicated that it could not continue set up because the system drive must be formatted ntfs. this is odd because I had started from scratch using dsfok and zeroing the drive then windows disc manegment utility to make a new active ntfs partition.

so I looked at it with mbrwhiz and sure enough it said fat 16b, then I checked it with beeblebrox, same thing:

heres a screen shot:

after experimenting a bit I found that it changes to fat16b only after marking it as active in drive management. does it every time. the only way I can make it work as ntfs correctly is by marking it as active in mbrwhiz or other but not inside windows.

what could be causing this behaviour?

thanks

Could it be "usboot"?

Could it be "usboot"?

hi Sha0, I thought it might be but it seems to not be usboot. it is either because Ive stripped this xp down with nlite and more or it could be tricky ICH9/ahci issues again. next I will try fresh install xp when I get a chance but I wanted to ask about it to see if anyone had noticed this before. I have only noticed it on this machine or on hdd I partitioned in this machine.

I may never get to the bottom of this since I found that marking them active with mbrwhiz is a work arround but if I learn more I will post about it here.

thanks
