Installing XP Pro SP3 on the clients without using the RIS service

I have a computer with Windows XP Pro SP3.
Using Tftpd32 and grub4dos, I would like to create a PXE server to install XP Pro SP3 on the clients without using the RIS service.
How do I do this?

(or use DOS, install to FAT32 with WINT.EXE and later convert the volume to NTFS - NOT advised)
WHY not using RIS?
It was made for it. (Remote Installation Service).

You cannot , but you can boot a PE of some kind and install from it "normally" with WINNT32.EXE or one of the other available installers (JFX/Fujianabc).

How do I configure the RIS service on XP Pro SP3 because, on my LAN, I do not have a computer that has Windows Server?

Maybe you can adapt Sherpya's work to your needs. I did; I use it on Windows instead of Linux... Ironic. I think I just needed Python. How do I configure the RIS service on XP Pro SP3 because, on my LAN, I do not have a computer that has Windows Server?

Sherpya has done a excellent work using a computer that runs Linux.
Has anyone done the same work using a computer that runs Windows XP Pro SP3?

Did you read this part of the post?Sherpya has done a excellent work using a computer that runs Linux.

I use Windows XP Pro SP2 as my "RIS server", using Sherpya's fine work.I use it on Windows instead of Linux... Ironic. I think I just needed Python.

http://reboot.pro/14401/
http://diddy.boot-la...t/pxe/index.htm
Which details, step by step, how to setup (among other things) a PXE RIS server by using Sherpya's BINL service and TFTP32 (NO need for a Windows "Server" edition) on a PC running Windows XP.

The interesting part is that this thread started after Balubeto Balubeto already found diddy's guide:

Apparently, the procedure described here http://diddy.boot-la...xe/files/xp.htm requires a Windows Server with the RIS active. Am I wrong?

Yes you are wrong.Apparently, the procedure described here http://diddy.boot-la...xe/files/xp.htm requires a Windows Server with the RIS active. Am I wrong?

And No, apparently the guide does NOT require a NT Server OS.
http://diddy.boot-la...files/intro.htm
This guide contains a detailed walkthrough with instructions for creating a tftp server using a Windows XP system. It has been based on Gianluigi Tiesi's "OpenSource Implementation of MS RIS Server"
The whole point is that by using Freewware tools you can have RIS working on a "normal" XP system (which acts as PXE and RIS server).
Or are you talking about the requirement of the 2003 files detailed here? :
http://diddy.boot-la...les/xp_hack.htm
Maybe it applies only to grub4dos/pxelinux
Just in case, go here:

and try it.

That might help. If you use Sherpya's work, one of the programs parses .INF files and builds a database from it, for use with the Sherpya-"RIS".I have to download the LAN or LAN RIS DriverPack for XP so that XP Pro SP3 can recognize the network cards of the various client computers?

I'm following the guide to manage the DriverPack_LAN-RIS package. But, when I run the "C:\PXE\tools\7za.exe e "D:\Documenti_pubblici\Server_PXE\tools\DriverPack_LAN-RIS_v10,11\DP_LAN-RIS_wnt5_x86-32_1011.7z" -o"D:\Documenti_pubblici\Server_PXE\temp" *.zip -r" command, the message

Does it contain .zip files?
Or the format of the files inside was changed and they are not anymore contained in .zip files?
Or maybe diddy used some "repacked" version?

Open the file in "normal" (GUI) 7-zip.

The structure of the DP_LAN-RIS_wnt5_x86-32_1011.7z archive is this:
Now, how do I manage it?

Let's see:
(original diddy's) #1:
Start a command prompt and extract all .zip files from DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z to C:\PXE\binl\temp\ by entering the following command -
C:\PXE\tools\7za.exe e "C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z" -o"C:\PXE\binl\temp" *.zip -r
This does:
- get all .zip files inside C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z and put them into C:\PXE\binl\temp
Then (original diddy's) #2:
Extract .inf files from the .zip files extracted in the previous step to C:\PXE\binl\INF\ by entering the following command -
C:\PXE\tools\7za.exe e "C:\PXE\binl\temp\*.zip" -o"C:\PXE\binl\INF" *.inf -rThis does:
- get from EACH .zip files inside C:\PXE\binl\temp\ all .inf files and put them into C:\PXE\binl\INF
Then (original diddy's) #3:
Extract all .inf files from C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z to C:\PXE\binl\INF\ (and rename any duplicate files) by entering the following command -
C:\PXE\tools\7za.exe e "C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z" -o"C:\PXE\binl\INF" *.inf -aourThis does:
- get ALL .inf files inside C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z and put them into C:\PXE\binl\INF
Then (original diddy's) #4:
Extract all .sys files from C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z to C:\PXE\binl\DRIVERS\ (and overwrite any duplicate files) by entering the following command -
C:\PXE\tools\7za.exe e "C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z" -o"C:\PXE\binl\DRIVERS" *.sys -aoarThis does:
- get ALL .sys files inside C:\PXE\tools\DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z and put them into C:\PXE\binl\DRIVERS
So, if you can sum up the above it resolves to:
Get ALL .inf files inside .7z files (no matter if inside a .zip file) and put them in C:\PXE\binl\INF
Get ALL .sys files inside .7z files and put them in C:\PXE\binl\DRIVERS
Since apparently your "source" .7z does not contain any "zipped" .inf file, simply continue with #3 and #4 (skipping #1 and #2).
Had you actually read this part:
If you cannot find the drivers for your network card or want to include numerous drivers, download DriverPack LAN and save the .7z file in C:\PXE\tools\ directory. Version 8.12.1 DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z is used below. The steps below can be automated by running 5a_LAN.cmd
And checked the actual 5a_LAN.cmd:
@echo off call "%~dp0_parameters.cmd" ::__________ ::Extract all .inf files from driver pack and auto-rename any duplicates %TOOLSDIR%\7za.exe e "%TOOLSDIR%\%LANPack%" -o"%BINL%\INF" *.inf -aour ::Extract all .sys files from driver pack and overwrite any duplicates %TOOLSDIR%\7za.exe e "%TOOLSDIR%\%LANPack%" -o"%BINL%\DRIVERS" *.sys -aoar pause
You could have noticed how only steps #3 and #4 are performed.
But (question) have you actually downloaded the downloaded version and tried using the pre-made .cmd batch files?
If I were you I would try them before (or concurrently) with the "manual" way, they only need to have an initial configuration:
