Several times it has been mentioned that a future release would support Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (ubcd4win not ubcd4dos). Is there any status or progress on this? I am able to create the usb. It starts and even gets to the point of the XP splash screen and that is when it crashes with a bsod. Has anyone had any success with this?

The only thing I need from ubcd4win is the servicespe and regedit (remote) or something equivalent to these. I am looking for a way to edit services and registry on computers that cannot start or have virus issues. chntpw is command line only and i am not comfortable with that. I need to be able to search and browse the registry and services, so a gui is necessary. If you can run servicespe and regedit (or equivalent) from xboot then ubcd4win is not needed.

If I create a usb with ubcd4win according to the ubcd4win directions then can I use xboot to add other iso's?

ubcd4win is supported in Xboot v1.0.0.0beta6.
But it will require atleast 1 GB of ram to run.(currently I am using firadisk to load ubcd4win , which loads whole iso file to ram, hence RAM requirement is so high. I will use better method in future so that RAM requirement will be low.)

If you are interested only in servicespe and regedit then avoid ubcd4win , cause it take hell of a time to boot.you can definitely find some other tools which boots faster and can provide GUI to use the software.
I can't recall such tool now , but you can ask other members on this forum.

Regards.

Edit:
you might be intrested in this tool Offline NT Password and Registry editor
And it is already supported in Xboot.

Thank you for your quick repsonse.
Maybe I am doing something wrong with ubcd4win. I am not familiar with firadisk.

The steps I used to create the usb using xboot were this:
drag and drop the ubcd4winbuilder.iso (783mb) to xboot
click create usb
select usb drive and syslinux bootloader

that is all.
You mentioned in an earlier post about using less ram by copying all folders/files to root directory of usb. can you explain with detail? I tried that but still didn't work.

I tried Hiren's Boot CD too but none of the programs were present. At least I could boot it but then what is the point if the programs are not there.

I use chntpw (Offline NT Password and Registry editor) for passwords but for registry editing I need something graphical so I can browse the registry looking for virus entries and other abnormal entries.

If anyone got ubcd4win working please help me else please suggest alternative.

Which version of Xboot are you using?
you have to use xboot v1.0.0.0beta6.
Also ubcd4win will boot only on PC which have atleast 1 GB RAM, if RAM is less then 1 GB it will crash.

firadisk loads whole iso file in ram so you need (783 MB + 300 MB) RAM to boot.

In future i will change the method for ubcd4win so that it will require only 300 MB of RAM for Booting on a PC.Current method is just temporary.

I know that I have tried a few times unsuccessfully. After I replied to you, it worked. lol

I must have done something right this time. Sorry to bother you. I will of course look forward to your future enhancements.

As for what you said before about servicepe or regedit alternatives. What kind of programs should I look for? Dos based? Pe? Live cd? Portable? What kinds of programs work in this environment? I guess not just any program can work.

Forgive me, I only know how to use the tools, not create them. I wish I knew more.

EDIT --> Beg your pardon, don't consider this post...it's all ok, I simply was tired and confused
