[EDIT: Conclusion] As Buster said, ShadowDefender is better than the rest.

First of all, sorry if you think this is off-topic, I don't have other windows related forums to ask the questions.

The other day I was browsing the Internet, I come across this amazing application that provides total protection for windows -- it creates a virtual environment on top of the actual windows so that any changes to windows system are only kept in ram and can be restored just by rebooting. You do have the choice to pick folders to save as well.

I think this is an amazing application to try out any thing that you not sure of. However, I turned off my PC without logging such info, and now I have looked everywhere possible but can't find it any more.

I really hope someone has heard of such amazing application before.

Sounds like one of the following - I've used these:

Deep Freeze (faronics)
Virtual System (returnil)
Shadow Defender

I've also used rollback rx from horizon data systems, but found issues with it (long ago, however). They also have a product called drive vaccine that has some functionality like you describe (I've not used it.)

I used deep freeze and it was very good until i discovered that when the system shut's down unexpectedly (power shortage for example), deep freeze saves the current configuration and does not restore the frozen one. The other thing that I wasn't pleased about is the cpu consumtion. When DF is in use, it hogs the cpu and everything is working 20% slower than before (in my opinion).

Yep, it was the Deep Freeze (Faronics). I think I'm extremely lucky to have you answered it because I noticed that you don't post much ever since you join the forum.

Five years ago I supported a library running deep freeze and still found it necessary to reload the pc's from time to time. Sometimes I just had to reinstall deep freeze, sometimes it was an OS reinstall. Whether my experience is typical...I am not sure.

So, of all those virtualization and rollback software, which one crap the least?

I know BSA would beat all of them, but some time I can't care less to analyze whether it is a malware or not, just want to execute it once and forget about it.
