is there a Menu Builder tool for syslinux that run in Windows environment? if its not exist then linux environment would be good too...

By my knowledge there is no special tool for.
you have to use a text file editor like notepad for windows.
and gedit i think for linux.

Syslinux can also support the gfxboot process - see other posts here(in the grub4dos area) for more on that aspect of things...

But agree with previous post...they are usually pretty simple text files so notepad or wordpad is usually enough. I usually double click on the cfg file, and then just assign notepad as the default application to that extension.

You are right when it comes to adding boot entries
But when it comes to choosing colors and location of the lines it has been a bit complicated.

If there is no other option I will continue to take cgf files from linux disks and just change them to my needs.

I think Sara wanted to have a tool that would allow a less experienced Syslinux user to prepare good working boot menu. Its not a matter of how to edit menu entries, but rather a matter of what to write in these entries to begin with. Its highly desirable to have this kind of an intelligent helper tool for every novice. Thanks Sara for the hint!

OK, what kind of menu are you using - plain "menu.c32" or the "vesamenu.c32"

This can make a big difference in understanding and how colors are managed (and yes, it can be confusing!...I did make changes recently to the winbuilder scripts for creating the ISO that properly interpret (for a "normal" text menu) the colors specified on the main page - look in the scripts in the Win7PE_SE project...

If you are in normal "menu.c32" mode, the ansi sequence sets the colors and it's not too difficult to manage - just tedious - and YES, a GUI tool that had pull downs would make it much much easier..

And location of the fields is also a bit of trial and error...

BUT, since there isn't a tool (at least not yet), if you get stuck, just ask! Lots of folks here willing to help.!

Not exactly what you wan't but might help you to create help messages in syslinux .
I have not used it , so i can't tell if this is what you need.
Try this and report back here if it works for you.

Not exactly what you wan't but might help you to create help messages in syslinux .

Seems to work OK, but is more for the "display" file syntax (i.e. the "help" file screens that sometimes are display when you hit a function key...BUT anything is better than nothing!

ILM is a tool for making display files for Isolinux/Syslinux.



Preview your work before building the ISO file and add color ASCII graphics to 

your display file...



Isolinux/Syslinux message files contains plain text and commands. All this can be done 

with any text editor, but ILM should make this easier and faster.



With ILM you can insert color commands, insert ASCII graphics with "not a real on-screen 

keyboard", preview your work...
