Setting project to use USB only problems.

I did bulid my LiveXP with integrated Sp3 XP CD.
Settings:
- System drive as settings drive
- ProramFilesPE: %SystemDrive% as location
- Ramdisk drivers unchecked
Copied to USB using: U_XP_SET. Booting correctly, pointer appears, then logon window frequently appears for 1/4 sec. Nothing else. I can open task manager, where i can see XPELogon, TaskMan (of course), and critical XP processes.
What's wrong?

'ProramFilesPE' ?? Is this what you entered under 'Set %ProgramFiles% folder name to' option (why?) or are you using standard %ProgramFiles% ("X:\Program Files")? Changing these settings can cause issues, be careful.
If 'Ramdisk drivers unchecked' you're using CreateISO finish script or WimBoot with supplied drivers?
A log will tell us more, save it, zip it and post here

Also, for testing, just boot ISO from virtual or CD.

I did mean "Define %ProgramFiles% location".
I just unchecked the checkboxes under "LiveXP\Drivers\5 Ramdisk\".
Also unchecked:
"LiveXP\Finish\2 Create Image\"
"LiveXP\Finish\3 Emulation\"
"LiveXP\Finish\2 Burn Image\"
Where is the log file located?

There are three scripts under "LiveXP\Finish\2 Create Image\", BootSDI, CreateISO and WimBoot (only BootSDI requires Ramdisk script selected); if you de-selected them all there's no ISO created
The log file must be saved manually (by default) from the Log results tab when project finishes (or setup to save automatically in Tools options - recommended). The HTML log will be in the project base folder and needs to be zipped up before posting here.

You say you're using U_XP_SET to setup USB from Target dir of this project? I thought U_XP_SET needed an image file (img/iso), no? I remember using PeToUSB for a setup like this but haven't tried in a long time; I prefer images for speed and portability etc. Anyway, taking your word for it you can do it this way, I still think your nLited source is an issue. As a general rule, better to get a normal booting ISO before attempting the USB stuff just to know your build is OK.I don't need any ISO since i will copy files from "Target" directory directly to USB.

ISO is not needed, but you can use it.I thought U_XP_SET needed an image file (img/iso), no?
I think it's logon problem, since LiveXP stops at logon part.
Anyway i will try to get not nLited source...

And one more question: Is it possible for LiveXP to boot from CD and seve settings on USB drive? Booting from USB takes time and i want LiveXP to store settings and registry (makes new programs install correctly).

I think this has something to do with changing Program Files to LivePrograms, I will have to test to see if this is a bug or ?? May I ask why you need special Program Files directory?LiveXP works OK, but there are no shortcuts in Start Menu and on desktop. Thats weird, because i have many programs enabled in LiveXP project (and i can find them in "Program FIles" directory).
If I understand your question, you want CreateISO type build booting strait from CD (no RAM loading) but keep %temp% on removable UFD? Maybe possible but problematic and won't do what you want I don't think; things like registry changes are not saved in temp so would be lost etc. You can still have temp in RAM (FBWF) with CreateISO, you'll get strait boot from CD with writable temp but not saved for next boot. The only way I know of to actually save configuration settings, registry changes, 'installed' programs etc. between boots is using hybrid portables called ppAX talked about here. And one more question: Is it possible for LiveXP to boot from CD and seve settings on USB drive? Booting from USB takes time and i want LiveXP to store settings and registry (makes new programs install correctly).

1. I need the log of the project you're having trouble with.1. I am not using ProgramFilesPE anymore. Problem still occurs.
2. I just need .NET Framework on my LiveXP and i don't want to install it every time i run LiveXP.
2. Check this post: http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=5888 for adding NET to LiveXP.
Some portables include NET support, not sure if it would do what you need though.
nlite.1.4.6.0.Multilanguage.Portable.with.Net.Framework.2.0.Integrated
nLite 1.4.7 plus NET Portable

Bottom line, if Basic and Components sections are left alone (default setup) and one of the Finish options is selected, it works; the rest can be altered at will. Start with a working build and work backwards, keeping notes on what you change and if shortcut creation is affected; only change a few things at a time and re-test.

I copied 'ModelRam.exe' to other folder, and set the project without 'Finish' scripts (like when boot was successful).
After i unpacked ModelRam.exe i did see 'Documents and Settings' directory and file named "ResShort.exe". What does this file do? Do i have to copy it to root of my USB?

Wow, you do like doing things the hard way , I don't see any way this will work; the ModelRam.exe is created based on the project you build. It will need to be re-created for each project to reflect changes made. What is the problem with just selecting a finish script (CreateISO etc.), you don't need to use the ISO (but nice to have).I just get an idea of workaround for my problem. I only need 'ModelRam.exe', right?

Going back to...
It was working like a dream but no shortcuts or did the shortcuts work at that point? The source was the problem after all.
Works like a dream now, thanks!

Looks like everything is OK, because ONLY changes in my project were that 'Finish' scripts, all programs, components and drivers wasn't changed in any way, so ModelRam didn't change, am i right?
2. There were no shortcuts (and most importantly, autostart).

This is an unorthodox way of setting up your build and seemingly fraught with unpredictable outcomes but, hey, if it works for you who am I to complain?1. I did test it. I unpacked manually ModelRam to root of my USB, then i did boot. Boot was successful (without errors) and shortcuts (also most importantly, autostart) are there on desktop, start menu, etc.

Glad it's working
