I've been playing around with liveXP for a while but every time i try to boot it i keep getting the BSOD in the image. however when i used the liveXP project here:

(the latest stable version) it booted without any BSOD's. i'm booting off my windows xp partition on my hard drive using grub4dos and the menu.lst entry i am using is this:

title LiveXP - directfind --set-root --ignore-floppies /OSimages/LiveXP.isomap /OSimages/LiveXP.iso (hd32)map --hookchainloader (hd32)boot

if you need any more info just ask because i don't know what info you would need.

It should mean that you are building a RAMDISK based image (works ), or you are not (won't work ).

In LiveXP that option is traditionally called BootSDI (though having nothing to do with actual SDI iimages).

You can have both a "ramdisk" .iso and a "ramdisk" .img.

latest Amalux packages are yes ramdisk based, but not bootsdi, they are wimboot

ok so i tried wimboot but this error message comes up. now what am i doing wrong? i'm using windows XP sp3 source.

himmmm, it says "WimBoot needed Files missing" himmmmmmmmmm, hard to say .....

When you look wimboot script through winbuilder, at bottom you will notice file requirements (source files). Seach & Find & Put the files mentioned to the specified folders (click opendir buttons.)

out of wimboot:
keeping default settings with livexp distribution (Download button at top of current webpage), created LiveXP.iso would boot fine with grub4dos, try grub4dos -mem option and make LiveXP.iso file contigous. (check last link given by jaclaz (=wonko))

I feel you need to practice with normal builds before dealing with wimboot.

Follow the advice given on LiveXP main interface

Inside this project you find several scripts with options that you may customize. Take your time to visit each script and folder to get a better idea of what you can do with it, have fun!

after practicing a while I am sure you will figure out how to do basic things easly like everyone

Actually using the firadisk approach, you don't need WAIK.

The fact that a number of people with high-speed connection (or that anyway have the WAIK) "voted" for the "WAIK based" solution doesn't mean that the solution is "right" or "better".

In a nutshell:

• traditional MS files -> download Server 2003 SP1, around 350 Mb if I recall correctly, dubious licensing issues
• firadisk-> download a few Kbytes - completely Free - no strings whatever attached
• MS WAIK files -> download WAIK, around 1.7 Gb, if I recall correctly..., dubious licensing issues

The good thing about freedom is that you are free to make choices....

hey, i get the same blue screen but i'm trying to make a bootable usb key with live xp on it.

i've made an iso using the live xp recommended setting in winbuilder with an untouched windows xp sp2 as source, which i also tested on a virtualbox virtual pc and works correctly, i've transfered the iso to the usb key using the make_usb.exe utility from u_xp_setup and it does strat to boot from it, i get all the way to the loading screen of windows where it crashes with that bsod.

i've looked around the internet for solutions, it was suggested that i modify the ntdetect.com file, which i've done but i get the exact same blue screen.

there are a lot of different forums out there with a lot of different solutions to a lot of different (but seemingly similar) problems, i've been searching and reading a lot of them all day yesterday and i've gotten to the point where it was all a tangle in my head, so i just thought i'd simply ask. i'm sure it has been asked before, i can't find it =/

Hey evilgoat, welcome aboard

Which finish script are you using, Wimboot or BootSDI? Have you confirmed correct drivers supplied for each? BootSDI can use 2k3 or FiraDisk, WimBoot requires 2k3. Posting the log would tell us all this and more

i've actually used the create iso finish script, i've gathered that there's something wrong with the way some drivers that are responsible for usb support in xp work but i haven't found any reference to fixing this.
i took a look at the boot sdi and wimboot finish scripts but seemed a bit complicated and i just noticed the scroll down part of wimboot where you specify those drivers from win 2k3.
i'll try a new build, using the wimboot as finish script and provide it the necessary win 2k3 drivers, i'll tell you how it goes and upload the log if i run into more problems.

Just for the record it is NOT Windows 2003, but rather Windows 2003 SP1!

yeah, it says win 2k3sp1(en) as source for setupldr.bin, i was just shortening it.
anyways i got it the setupldr.bin and put it in \winbuilder\Workbench\Common\BootSDI_WimB\, extracted the necesary files from 6001.18000.080118-1840-kb3aikl_en.iso which it automaticaly placed in \winbuilder\Workbench\Common\WimBootWaikFiles\ and with no other changes to the livexp recomanded script i hit play.
at the veryfication step it exited with the following error:
Because of missing files some results may be wrong

Missing: Title: downloads

Errors:
"Please decide for either Explorer, Xoblite or CMD script"
Warnings:

I can't download the log (server unavailable) but check out the pre-configured projects here for examples of how scripts should be setup, exact file versions and placement etc.

i've fixed it, moved the winbuilder directory to a simpler path (root) and everything works like it's supposed to.
