Hello,

At Boot Land we've been improving hard to improve the server conditions as you might have noticed with the speed increase and the lack of site blackouts.

One of the things left to improve is the backup system. At moment we are doing scheduled backups but we could do a lot better.

One of the ideas is using the online service from dropbox as repository to keep the backup files on a cloud computing space where we can recover them in case of disaster, however, boot land size passes over the free 2Gb limit and increasing the quota costs 10 USD per month which is not viable as a long term solution.

However, they offer 250 Mb per each person that installs dropbox on their machine using a referral and if we get enough referrals then limit of our free boot land account can reach up to 8Gb worth of files which is more than enough for all our backup needs.

So, if you're willing to help us, do try dropbox and sign up for their service using this link: https://www.dropbox....ls/NTEyMjQzNzc5

We need at least 24 volunteers to sign up and try dropbox at least once even if they don't ever use it again.

If you have any question please ask.

Thank you for helping!

:)

Thank you! :(

9 people joined so far and hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to automate the backups to dropbox.

With some luck there might be enough room to also backup most of the boot land subdomains as well.

:)

A simpler approach might be to use Microsoft's Skydrive which offers 25gb free. They have recently added a synching service to this. Also on windows you can make your skydrive appear as a drive letter -- thus opening up a whole bunch more backup options.

I can do better than that. I have unlimited quota and 3 TB on my hosting account. I have had the same domain for several years and have no plan on changing or canceling my account any time in the future.

Please contact me directly via my account address and I will set up FTP access for boot-land.net

The only problem is that our server is based on Ubuntu and they're not so friendly when it comes to use another OS platform but I'll keep skydrive in mind if we need additional space.

----------------------

@everyone

We've reached the max number of registrations and the boot land account has now 10Gb of free disk space to use.

There is no more need for referrals as our quota went up the roof. I'm really proud of belonging to such strong community.

THANK YOU!!
