WinXP Live boot over network HELP Please !!
Posted 17 April 2010 - 07:39 PM
I have read about all this forum..but i have not understand some things.
I know how to make a bartpe .iso image and boot over PXE ! I have done it and it works.
After i have read on this forum I decided to make an Iso image with a LiveXp to make a boot over lan, but even if I readed 10 times I do not know where I`m mistaken....
First of all I tried to make the image. In the ISO I included the files from the 2k server.
When the image was done i try it but i was absolutly surprised that the image hadn`t any program installed in it, after i had included all the script in the app script(selected them).
The real problem is that i could not make the boot because everytime I tried another error ocured.. one time the winnt.sif, another time error code 16, error code 71... I don`t know what all that means...
My request to you all is to help me if you can....providing me a tutorial with all the steps I have to make that boot work.
PLEASE HELP ME !!
THANK YOU !!
PS: Sorry if my english is bad , i`m not a native speaker !

to add 2k3sp1 ramdisk.sys & setupldr.bin to the build, use LiveXP-->Drivers-->5 Ramdisk==>Win2k3_Ramdisk script (provide files)
also LiveXP-->Basic-->Build-->Define Boot sector ==> selecting bootsect.bin probably be more suitable for your goals.

well, I feel there are too many custom changes on your build which is hard to understand what is going on.
get a copy here (updated 2 days ago)
make you build, see how things work.
to fix krokodox script (Krokodox_util.script), open script with notepad and change [Process-Files] section with following
[Process-Files] Echo,"Expanding files from source..." require_file,chkdsk.exe require_file,xcopy.exe require_file,tftp.exe
LiveXP-->Drivers-->5 Ramdisk==>Win2k3_Ramdisk script by providing ramdisk.sys , setupldr.bin files. (2k3 sp1)

I'm back now and i want to thank you all for your great support.
I've tried and I've managed to complete my first network boot. I'm verry happy now that i can use it.
Sorry to ask you again for something like a little help.
I have made all of this "blind". Can anyone of you explain to me how the related files from windows server function.
For example i understand that the network booting with the files from Win Server is based on the version of PXElinux....that use a linux kernel...but how it procede with the startrom.0....and why we need to put the files in our version of win Xp to make it live...and to boot him in ram...
i do not know if i'm clear...(
all i want form you if you want , and know is to explain me what does every file that i use ...or to give me a page where i cand find all of this
thank you a lot for your help !!

It's a two step process.
You need to understand RAMDISK booting first.
Do READ both threads by aec on 911cd:
Once you feel confident with this part, will talk about the PXE booting. (second step)
