Hey everyone,

this post is being made to explain a bit about the antivirus rescue CD's in Sardu, where to get them, how to name them, how to use them,...
I hope this will help some people.
My plan is to eventually do this for all tools on Sardu, if you have any questions meanwhile, just make a new post.

Based on the outdated "getting started" post.
Let me know if you see mistakes or outdated info.

Anti-virus utilities
These utilities will give you a anti-virus solution while not booted in windows. These tools have their own platform to run on (Linux or DOS in most cases), can scan and remove items that cannot be removed while windows is running(polymorphic viruses) or when the windows installation cannot boot.
A normal scan with anti-virus software in Windows is recommended after using these utilities.
  • AOSS PcTools
    Alternate Operating System Scanner
    Homesite
    Direct download link(59.1MB)
File name needed for Sardu: "AOSS.iso"
Virus definitions can be updated from the internet.
AOSS does not remove infected files, it disables them, so later you'll have to remove them using the anti-virus program Spyware Doctor for Windows(link).
  • AVG Rescue CD
    Homesite
    Direct download link(69.3MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "avg_arl_cd_en_90_100407.iso"
Virus definitions can be updated from the livecd on the internet.
This program scans your drives and lists all files that are infected. These files can be selected and removed.
It also has some tools that come with it:
    - Midnight Commander (file manager)
    - Windows Registry Editor
    - TestDisk (Hard drive recovery/tester)
    - Ping (Ping internet addresses)
    - Several other small programs
  • Avira Antivir Rescue System
    Homesite
    Direct download link(63.8MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "rescue_system-common-en.iso"
No update definitions option, you need to download the image again for newest virus definitions.
The Avira version of a bootable virus scanner.
  • BitDefender
    Bitdefender Rescue CD
    Homesite
    Direct download link(266.3MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "BitDefenderRescueCD_v2.0.0_3_08_2009.iso"
This BitDefender Rescue CD boots in a Linux environment with a scanner installed and downloads the latest virus definitions by default. It also includes some nice tools, see this PDF file for more information:
  • Dr. Web LiveCD
    Homesite
    Direct download link(66.9MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "minDrWebLiveCD-5.0.2.iso"
There is a option in the boot menu to update the virus definitions from the internet.
The Dr.Web LiveCD includes a virus scanner and some other tools:
    - Firefox (surf the internet)
    - Sylpheed (mail client)
    - Midnight Commander (file manager)
    - Leafpad (text editor)
For more information on how to install and configure this LiveCD, check this PDF file
  • F-Secure
    Homesite
    Direct download link(122.9MB)
This is a ZIP file, you will need to use a extractor like 7-zip to extract the ISO.
File name needed for use with Sardu: "f-secure-rescue-cd-3.11-23804.iso"
You can update the virus definitions from a file or from the internet, they will be updated automatically when you start the rescue CD.
This rescue CD also has some tools on it:
    - PhotoRec (recover data)
    - TestDisk (Hard disk Testing and Recovery)
    - Smartmontools (Inspect your hard disks)
For more information, check the PDF file here.
  • G Data
    Homesite
    Direct download link(175.3MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "GData_Boot_CD_2010_ENG.iso"
You can update the virus definitions from the rescue CD connected to the internet.
G-Data is a multi-engine virus scanner, it has been known to use the avast!, Kaspersky and BitDefender engines.
  • Kaspersky Rescue CD 2010 (You can still use the 2008 version)
    Homesite
    Direct download link(118.1MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "kav_rescue_10.iso"
You can update the virus definitions from the rescue CD connected to the internet or manually update the virus definitions in windows using this tool.
Kaspersky has a good reputation as virus scanner, it is by many people seen as the best antivirus rescue CD. There is a "help.chm" (windows help file) available in the ISO file, under the "help" folder.
  • Panda Safe CD
    Homesite
    Direct download link(130.3MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "PandaSafecd.3.4.3.5.iso"
The program detects installed Panda products on your computer and uses the latest virus definitions found. You can also define a virus definition manually.
  • Virus Block ADA's(VBA) Rescue CD
    Homesite
    Direct download link(97.8MB)
File name needed for use with Sardu: "vbarescue.iso"
The virus definitions are automatically updated before the scan starts.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you for the fast reply Agni!
I am going to leave this entry like it is, and once the installer is updated(the name must be changed in the installer), and we have tested the new Kaspersky rescue disk, I will update this post.
The installer also points out to a newer version of VBA rescue CD, the renaming has not been tested yet. If someone is willing, If not, I do it tomorrow.

Sardu works with vba rescue and kaspersky 2010.
