I would like to create such pendrive usb that:
will be able to boot on :
512mb ram computer and usb 1.0.
from usb.

My idea is to create live xp smallest possible with only drivers for usb detection, vmdk file with tools and create FBINST partition (ud) and put this iso file on it.
fbinst part is ok - i can do it.

But how to make super_extra_small.iso file ?
Rest of drivers i can put on usb and zpnp or driver import.
Main thing is only to boot and detect usb pendrive.

Please how to create super small iso of windows xp with only file manager and drivers for usb detection ?

I tried many times but i always have 140mb even if i deselect almost everything in winbuilder (leave only sata drivers and usb and drive import pe).

Help please.

But how to make super_extra_small.iso file ?

for a begining,
unselect all components
and unselect all apps

check the result, and move on......

Here are my old test results for the motivation:

LiveXP Size Test Results (Lancelot):
(Explorer based + ramdisk , source xpsp2enu)

Mini: 53MB (Compressed 20MB)
+Dps (+7MB): 53+7=60MB (Compressed 27MB)
+MMC (+16MB): 53+16=69MB (Compressed 25MB)

Mini+Dps+MMC+Compressed=32MB

I advice you spend some time, no need coding, only check scripts and learn what things does. Maybe in the end you come with a tutorial :whistling:

ok here is how i would do it ,(and mind you ,i have done it already)

1. i 'd make a pe 1.X with WIMBOOT . and would select to put VMDK file on another drive in WIMPACK .

2. then i 'd add following apps

1.everything
2.any file manager (if script is not available u can use QUICKSCRIPT)
3. add Amalux's modded driver import pe .
4. PE Network (deselect last option where it out some additional files)
5. The World Browser (only 600 KB ,multi tabbed browsing)
6. mass storage pack
7. usb pack

the result will be below 45 MB wim image , load it as iso .

edit WIMMOUNT.cmd with the following ,

if not exist x:\name.vmd fbinst (hd1) export name.vmdk X:\name.vmdk

keep on adding same command with hd# ( ie 5 commands like it with only hd# difference )

make sure you have fbinst.exe in same location as winmount.cmd

make sure your iso image does not have vmdk ,and make sure that iso is properly defraged ,if not use wincontig .

do not use map --mem tp load iso.

i hope it ll help...

if i will copy iso file to (ud) partition wich is hidden and invisible in windows, how to defrag this file ?
i know, when it is on my hd i can defrag it using winconfit, but if i copy it to hidden created with fbinst partition (ud) -> how to access this file and defrag ?

5. The World Browser (only 600 KB ,multi tabbed browsing)

World Browser is just a front end for the trident engine (IE). If IE is not installed, The World does not work.

Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration

and wait and nothing, 30 minutes nothing.

wincontig needs to be applied WHILE it is accessible in windows.

can you show me the screenshot of your settings in WIMBOOT only ?

and by the way , you got pm..

in attachment -> with create iso = working.
But in wimboot even without those option you wrote => iso is smaller (28mb in wimboot,58mb in createiso) but quemu not doing it.

100% cpu usage, waiting 10 minutes and nothing

I tried with setupldr.bin from windows server 2003 sp2
and from erd commander.
the same all the time.

and i even extracted file maanu.iso from intoxicator you sent me, extracted setupldr.bin from it and put to directory (bootwimsdi etc place for setupldr.bin)
to wimboot -> and all the same like always quemu is showing that found 28mb cd and booting and wait wait 100%cpu usage 10 minutes = nothing.

Even grub4dos is not showing.
in createiso grub4dos is showing.
in wimboot NOT

ramdisk loaded and then is showing :
smth like:
windows is preparing preinstalled enviroment and numlock stope responding, ctrl+alt+del not working, system hanged

and few question:
sometimes winbuilder is showing some errors -> wimpack_filterexclude not found access denied,
sometimes in taskmgr is hanged this process:uumerge.exe
and winbuilder stop working,m only when i kill it it continues.why ?
and sometimes in wimboot it not creating ISO file.why ?

Ok so now i downloaded again recommended livexp, unchecked everything, build with source win2k sp1 and ok it is working, wim small iso fine everything unched, without explorer, only checked firadisk., but:
start chainloader etc, ok
ramdisk load ok
windows load ok.
and then after logo, this error is shown:
LSASS.EXE:
write operation was attempted to volume after it was dismounted.
and auto restart.
why ?

(ON XP BASED SOURCE -> everything the same but error text is LSASS.exe ->application was not properly initialized [or smth like that it is translation from polish] and auto restart)

well , that log has lot of errors (halt ones) . mainly i guess due to leaving main scripts related to gui .

why dont you try to choose something from THIS .

http://amalux.winbui...p?dir=Projects/

these are ready to use packages , check the date and choose...

REMEMBER being light does not (read as should not) mean to be in lack of functionality .

bottom line is dont leave out scripts which are vital .

as minimum as you can get with wim bases approach with full or most of working is about 45 to 50 MB image (i am assuming you will select wimpack too and place VMDK file OUTSIDE iso .)

and i have already explained that how you can manage it to work with ud and fbinst..
