Hi, boot-lander
so a little about my bio i'm a basic technician about computer stuff's but only byside, my true life is studying as a normal student. And my english is not so good. ;-P
ah, i'm really a newbie in building PE's, have only tested some builds with BartPE and UBCD, can say 3 images but only for testing not yet for really using it and i have tested it with VMware.

So i found this website and find much interestings stuff to learn etc. And what would be the best choice for me if i need to build a PE to use as rescue, there are so much builder out there like WinPE, BartPE, UBCD, MiniPE or with Reatogo, so please can someone give me a good advice to starting here?

Okay that's all about me for the first. hehe :-)

There are many good projects here

All use Winbuilder to build, so I would suggest starting there
Down load Winbuilder learn how to use Winbuilder and read up on the many different projects and requirements needed to build each project.

Many sources can be used,
XP
Vista
Win7

So you have many choices

As one of the WinBuilder programmers, I think that you agree that my opinion is rather independent.

If you in short time NEED a working PE, maybe to fix some actual issues in your live host, then you should use LiveXP.

On the other hand, if you are interested in building an 'actual' PE, and taking part on the development, then you should use the Win7 world with Win7RescuePE by Joshua or Multi7PE by YahooUK.

While LiveXP is in a very stable situation and has really a lot of application scripts, the two Win7 projects are still under development, provide much less applications, and may have bugs and may change daily.
But IMHO they are the future ...

BTW: If you want to go into the roots:
The 'parent' of LiveXP is my project 'nativeEx_barebone'
And an 'overset' for Win7RescuePE is my project 'nativeEx_Win7'.
Warning: If you use one of them, you have to do a lot of work in order to get a 'practically usable' PE.

If I may, the fastest/easiest is using a "frozen" pre-configured build, such as the ones in the excellent Amalux's Tutorial:

Then, if you like what you see, go on and try a customized LiveXP or any of the other projects.

Projects depend on source available

If you only have a XP install disk then XP based PE would be best

If you only have a Vista Install disk then look at VistaPE

I have windows XP SP3 and vista SP1 & SP2 but prefer to start with windows XP source.

hi,
wow i have finished my first WinPE with WinBuilder and my choice was LiveXP with windows XP SP2 (founded SP2 later hehe). It's so amazing and fast in real running. Boah, that's the best PE that i have ever seen in speed i mean in booting. I have not tested much my eyes get to close. I must sleep first then lets see more and testing with some programs. After that great booting with LiveXP let me wounder like magic. :-)
