I want to build WinPE bootable CD, but with different boot drive letter (different from X).
Is it possible?

I thought to get it by setting some reg value in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices,
But I don't know what values to set, in order for it to work on every cdrom.

tnx.

You can't change the boot drive letter that way for a CD-ROM.
MountedDevices are drives not media disks.
So, it works for HDD, USB-Sticks, RamDisks and CD-ROM-Drives.

But if you want to use your CD-ROM only on a single computer and put it always into the same CD-ROM-Drive, then you can set the drive letter by MountedDevices.

There exists a tutorial by me, on how to do it, as well as a script that somewhat automates the task.
The script, if it can still be found, somewhere in the download center, should also work fine for Win7, but was created for XP based PE a long time ago, so it might has some trouble with latest WB or Win7 projects.

Is there another way?
There must be something that defines the specific boot drive letter.

Thank you,
It works.

I tried only with the second key, and got that message:
"Windows PE cannot start because the actual SYSTEMROOT directory (X:\windows) is different from the configured one (c:\windows)

Only to disambiguate this nice trick is for PE 3.x ONLY (and possibly for 2.x).
AFAIK is UNtested on PE 1.x.

The PE MedEvil was referring to was the 1.x.

That "trick" should be this one:
http://reboot.pro/1938/
which includes a nice little app by vrocco

Probably, but cannot really say, the migrate.inf trick may be extended to the PE "X:" drive letter
