You can do better :(.
After unselecting most scripts you get a mini livexp,
example: unselect all Components+Apps+Drivers scripts. Make a test build to have a "mini" result.

Further it is all about your requirements adding things you want.

As far as I remember hi..n uses cab compressed super floopy image which is already available for a looong while with bootsdi script before hi..n. Besides LiveXP users very mostly prefer wimboot (thanks to nikzzzz) builds...

Shortly:
For people who are familiar with livexp, what you request is already and easly available. It is all about you spending some time on practicing with livexp.

also check amalux tutorial and packages

Have fun. :(

Sure, life is tough. :D

It wil take far more than 5 hours to get familiar with the tools, experiment with the differnt ways of booting, etc., etc.

Just for the record, here is the parallel thread on MSFN:

Hey, give us some numbers :(

What is the size of your ISO? Are the files located inside the ISO lying separately, or in an image (represented as a big archive, extensions are *.img, *.im_, *.wim)?

2 suspects:
1-disable floppy setting in your bios if you do not have floppy device.
--> Agni pointed before, This is a common PE issue http://www.boot-land...showtopic=12025
Issue will be fixed (workarounded) with next livexp package.

2-you did not follow the previous advice to get mini build

You can do better :).
After unselecting most scripts you get a mini livexp,
example: unselect all Components+Apps+Drivers scripts. Make a test build to have a "mini" result.

LiveXP_WIM.ISO 162 MB

with the advice I gave, it can not be 162 MB.
Here are results I've got and published before:

.......
LiveXP Size Test Results (Lancelot):
(Explorer based + ramdisk , source xpsp2enu)

Mini: 53MB (Compressed 20MB)
+Dps (+7MB): 53+7=60MB (Compressed 27MB)
+MMC (+16MB): 53+16=69MB (Compressed 25MB)

Mini+Dps+MMC+Compressed=32MB , Rest is up to your imagination and requirements. :(
.....

ps: wimboot builds is in Compressed category :(.

Background:
all "image to ram" kind builds (bootsdi script , wimboot) requires images to be loaded to Ram when booting. Your image is 162 MB so you need to wait 162 MB loaded first, with your case I guess during boot 162MB loaded to ram by reading from cd first than bootup continues....

Shortly: Get your boot image smaller (~60 , 70 MB)
Some ideas:
* unselect some scripts
* on application scripts you can select "Run From CD" option where available.
* also you can use portable applications seperately, I previously wrote

also check amalux tutorial and packages

where you can find a good set of portable application packages.
* wimpack script packs applications on seperate image hence bootimage is smaller.

Yep, I got from amalux' test build 37,7Mb ISO after cutting down drivers, apps, and MMC. It's fast, boots just on 96Mb RAM (128Mb sugessted for safe work). And absolutely bare, lol :smiling9:

If you are not pleased with the speed of the CD, maybe it's time to move on to flash drive with GRUB on it?
With PLOP manager it can be very fast -- I have ~30Mb/sec boot speed on my compie. Takes quarter of minute (15 sec) to boot microPE build!

About boot speed: if ntldr (with boot.ini) is used in place of setupldr.bin and setupreg.hiv will be transformed --> hive SYSTEM, boot PE will be faster. For UFD such variant works perfectly, but for CD after Bootlogo - Bsod 0x7b.
Until now decisions to find not succeeded. ...If it exists in general! :(

If I get it right (judging from your other post here):
http://www.boot-land...?...=3765&st=29

You are working on a "hybrid" PE/XP.

Previous attempts were not fully successful AFAICR and anyway not documented properly:

Why don't you start a new thread with more details on your approach...?

I am sorry. I have difficulty to choose a correct section for creation of theme about it, at the same time to my mind, my reports behave to the affected questions. Well... though a bit. :)
Boot full XP from USB (and DVD too!) is real thing, question decided. There is used EWF control, without swapfile. DVD boot in this case is very, very slow (Eltorito). Full XP on USB booted and worked with normal speed аlmost.
A "hybrid" PE/XP? It looks more alike on PrePreinstalll Environment with preliminary the partly formed hive SYSTEM. It is not my Idea - Idea by Alexey32 © forum.ru-board.com.

Sure, with all due respect :), not really "news":

No matter whose the original idea is, it would be interesting if you would share your findings/experience. :)
If I were you, I would start a thread here:
http://www.boot-land...hp?showforum=12
Boot Land > Groups > Boot from USB / Boot anywhere > LAN and any other methods
since though this is partly a XP and partly a PE, it doesn't "fit right" IMHO into the more generic "windows Xp support".

In any case, it can be later moved by a Mod or Admin anywhere, as an example into [ProjectForge], no prob at that.

:)
