i am using acronis in my livexp build.
and i have two options in my start menu folder for applying a "partmgr upperfilter" and a "snapman upperfilter"
my question is....
what do they do?

Which script do you use?
described here
it simply import a .reg file (at least in my modded script)
and change the data of the 'UpperFilters' value in the keys:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

http://www.boot-land...?...=8883&st=10
post #13.
and i made a typo in my first post.
i have a "snapman upperfilter for timounter" and a "snapman upperfilter for partmgr"
im just not sure what they are suppose to do and how they would benefit me.
sorry for my lack of knowledge. 0_o

try to mount a .tib file

use 'UpperFilters with PartMgr' before mounting
(anyway the PE boots with these settings if you use my modded TI Echo Omni 9.5 full script)
it imports this:
{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} UpperFilters PartMgr,snapman
{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} UpperFilters snapman

and use 'UpperFilters with timounter' before mounting
it imports this:
{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} UpperFilters snapman
{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} UpperFilters snapman,timounter

this is not my finding
this method - in a slightly different way - used in thuun's original script, too

the other way:
use Galapo's script 'Add/Remove UpperFilters'
\Drivers\5 Other\AddRemoveUpperFilters.script
upper_3.png

For the experiment:
in real XP when Acronis is installed
in {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} UpperFilters
PartMgr snapman
and
in {71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} UpperFilters
snapman timounter
used together,
but seems it does not work in PE
(at least in a XP based PE, in VistaPE the situation is different).
At me when the PE wants to boot using these 'UpperFilters' settings:
'PartMgr' in {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
plus
'timounter' in {71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
together
the PE lost the HDD.
So as an attempt try:
upper_2.png

when also other data needed in 'UpperFilters' value - e.g. hotcore3 for Paragon HDM 8.5 or newer version
try:
upper_1.png

Edit:
so in a XP based PE to prevent to lose the volumes
there are two ways
at the early boot stage in the 'UpperFilters' value should present

1. in the key HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class
{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} PartMgr snapman
{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} snapman

or

2. in the key HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class
{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} snapman
{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} snapman timounter

both constellation work,
and when the second constellation used then TI works fine
and no need to change the settings for backup task and for image mounting function - if remember right
try:
upper_4.png

but i prefer the first constellation (at boot the PartMgr present in that key)
