Syslinux - new forum section!

Starting from today forward, boot-land.net has now a forum section specially dedicated to Syslinux

Syslinux is a versatile boot loader that allows running several modules right from the boot menu.

IceCube has volunteered to be our resident expert on the matter and he has a lot of good ammount of knowledge and experience to share with the rest of our community about this specific boot loader.

While we speak, some promissing new features seem headed towards Syslinux and windows based boot disks in a near future.

If you want to have a longer subtitle, list everything (so change it again ):
SYSLINUX, ISOLINUX, PXELINUX, EXTLINUX and MEMDISK

Note: the main developer prefers all caps for the individual bootloaders:

* Adopt the moniker "The Syslinux Project", standard proper
noun capitalization, to refer to the project as a whole.
Thus, reserve the all-caps "SYSLINUX" to refer to the FAT
loader.

I am sorry for this, but you cannot have ALL CAPS in a Forum Title, it's simply a question of "netiquette", see Rule #9:

This could be an acceptable compromise, IMHO.

SYSlinux, ISOlinux, PXElinux, EXTlinux and memdisk

BTW, last time I checked the actual filenames were all in small letters....

Is it an alternity to GRUB4DOS?

Yes , it is an alternative to grub4dos (or you could say that grub4dos is an alternative to syslinux, since it was born AFAIK after GRUB, but before grub4dos).

memdisk can be used as an alternative to grub4dos map --mem command, and it is often used as such, thus it can be said that it is ALSO working at a later stage, but with newish releases of grub4dos and Syslkinux, etc., they can be chainloaded from one another, so it is also possible to load grub4dos after Syslinux, etc. and viceversa.

Would it be possible to be named as "Syslinux" and mention the remaining components of the project in the description?

I've renamed the forum section title to "The Syslinux project" and included in the description all the child projects in their respective caps to follow the mentioned author specifications and better describe this project.

Here is the used description:

SYSLINUX, ISOLINUX, PXELINUX, EXTLINUX and MEMDISK are boot loaders for the Linux operating system which operates off an MS-DOS/Windows FAT filesystem. It is intended to simplify first-time installation of Linux, and creation of rescue and special-purpose boot disks.
