VistaPE v.12 Drivers

Hello All!

Right now VistaPE use drivers from driverpacks.net, but it's drivers for Windows XP and many not work with VistaPE, i plan make my own drivers pack for v.12, only for LAN and SATA/RAID/SCSI drivers now. Can you help with searching for all Vista compatibility drivers? I need only URL to source... Thanks!

ps drivers pack will be available only when i rewrite vpeldr with autoIT

You only need x32 Vista drivers right?

How about a tool to copy and submit the drivers from the local machine if it is x32 onto a website and build a database?

If it isn't supported - then submit the hardware details and ask the user to enter a link to where others can download the x32 drivers for his model.

This would make these vista driverpacks self updateable over the years and reusable for other needs.

What do you think, too much work?

I have been integrating and testing the LAN and MassStorage driverpacks into VistaPE11 using peimg for a little while. I created a post in their forums about a couple drivers that caused some problems here:

There is currently a "nightly" driverpack with improved PE support but I have not tried it yet.

What about the driverstore files repository that is contained within the Vista/2008 install.wim itself? It provides an extremely wide range of ready-made hardware support. Is its possible 'extraction and repackaging' of no use to you?

At the risk of committing heresy, I can't help wondering if it might be time for you to consider "branching" VistaPE with a Vista/2008 DVD source edition separate from the WAIK edition. As it stands, the combined support logic seems to impose a lot of restrictions on what could be enormous potential. Just a thought. Don't clobber me too hard.

I agree with Arvy. First step should be to enable using of Network / Storage drivers that are supplied on the Vista DVD.

Hi NightMan, I have just begun using the forums a few days ago an have not had a lot of time on my hands to do thorough research but, Vista seems to do a nice job of finding drivers by itself. I tested VistaPE 12 on on of the computers at work (Gateway Profile) that had a folder named "Drivers" on the hard drive and when VistaPE tried to use those drivers it messed up to Shell and only left me with Command prompt as an option. The owner of the Gateway Profile did not put the "Drivers" folder there and had no idea how they got there and the drivers were not even for that computer which is what caused the problem. When I stopped the driver detection from using drivers on the hard drive everything worked normally. Vista SP1 is supposed to have 75,000+ drivers. Would it be possible to give the Vista Drivers precedence over the ones on the Hard drive or prompt the user to decide which driver to use?
Gosh, I am dying for the final release of VistaPE 012--I was showing it off at work today and got all the other techs excited and 1 is really into PE stuff now. It is sooo stable right now and I was using it to try to clean a computer infected with some nasty malware--It did not even crash once. UBCD4Win would have crashed after doing the 3rd scan. Thanks.

I have done dozens of Vista installation on all kinds of configurations
and didn't experience any major problems with drivers.

Driver support in VistaPE 12 should be organized to use Vista source,

Honestly, in the test that I have done I have never experienced any major driver problems either.
This is the only major problem I have encountered and it was caused by the driver itself which
seemed to somehow break the rest of the scripting process. Unfortunately narrowing down
which driver caused the problem would be too difficult (there were 1.25GBs of drivers in that folder
that support the many Dell and Gateway computers across the campus).
That was the only reason why I thought it might be better to let Windows find a driver 1st.

Why not use the drivers included in Symantec Suite 2.5 when you build a pe 2.0 iso? It has most sata, scsi and network drivers not included in pe 2.0.

Sorry for not being clear enough... I wan not able to extract the files needed from the .exe I do use a program to extract the drivers from a system that used those drivers and i have placed these drivers in the customer folder for running when i make my build.. It placed the correct drivers into the "drivers" folder but then when it booted it could not find the correct drivers.. Is there a way to manually to load the drivers needed for this system?

I'm sure there's a way to get them loaded automatically, but I'm no expert on that. If you are using VistaPE 12 beta 2, double-click the VistaPE Loader icon in the system tray, click the "PE Tools" tab, browse and select your driver, and click "Install".

Did you ever use the PE Tools to load a driver? Did it work? For me it does not work, always tells me that a file was not found...

Anyone can confirm this? I user Viste SP0 German as source...

same here for me. i am using a dutch vista sp1 with wb 075 b4.
it happens when you have the driver packs internal. (and not external in \drivers on dvd)
the process reads the driver inf in the \windows\inf directory, then it wants to load the sys files for that hardware.
it fails because it can't find the sys files located in windows\system32\drivers. when i copy the sys files into the windows\inf directory everything gets loaded ok.
when i have the drivers external in \drivers all i have to do is to point to \drivers and then everything gets loaded correctly also.

it happens all the time with my nic/chipset/video hardware.
when winpeldr starts doing its suff, plug and play get's broken

I wrote an add drivers script that uses peimg. You need the WAIK installed to use it. I've only tested it with an English source. I think others have used it with different languages. It's been available for over 5 months with no reports of problems. Try it here.

With Winbuilder 075 beta 4, on XPSP3 En host,
with AIK 1.1 En installed (6001.18000.080118-1840-kb3aikl_en.iso), in VistaPE 12 beta3
in both case when the source is the AIK 1.1 either the Vista SP1 En DVD (not VLited)
I get this error message:

The image directory specified is not a valid Windows PE image.
PEIMG failed to complete the operation with status code 0x80070002.

The script looks for the image at %TargetDir%\Windows. Where did you put the script. I use it at C:\WinBuilder075\Projects\VistaPE-Core\Drivers. At that point in the build, there should be a valid image at %TargetDir%\Windows.

It is in C:\vistape12b3\projects\VistaPE-Core\Drivers_mustang
but in the past it was in the
C:\vistape12b2\projects\VistaPE-Core\Drivers
I think the problem is related to VistaPE 12 itself (and not to the script)
as also get this error when try to use the peimg.exe /inf= manually from command prompt
mounting the c:\vistape12b3\Target\VistaPE-Core\vistape.wim
This peimg.exe /inf= method works in the project pe21 of allanf.
In VistaPE 12 markus8's (Mark Smith) "Vista Driver Integrator" works for me.

The the ctv99's (Charles Stevens) "Vista Driver Integrator" works only in VistaPE 11.

I'm using it with VistaPE 012 b3. However, I have the the SP0 WAIK installed. I'll try it after installing the SP1 WAIK and let you know.

It worked fine with the SP1 WAIK installed. Sorry, I have no idea why peimg is not happy with your build.
