[Script] FIPS

Maybe somebody can explain, what FIPS is doing, I do not know. So I decide for my famous 'Voodoo'
But I wrote a script to install it and upload to nativeEx server.
Peter
BTW:
At least once a week, in this forum, I have to fight against 'Voodoo'
@Forum Owners, @Admins, @Mods, (@TheHive?) etc:
I have the 'high priority request' for a smiley 'Voodoo'

Have a look at the contents of fipsSigs.dat:
vmcryptolib.dll = "MCwCFBCV5kOMyo6Hx5L1CfJ1XELP8T5jAhQU+uRghsXnvTdxF2BzpNTv0GOq1g==" libeay32.dll = "MCwCFCA4JUPkitFSintW6sjHlzlLrO3nAhQtPZVe+GkFq1O+wgYLi8+uzNjpAw==" ssleay32.dll = "MC0CFQCzgCyEZQpgqiAFGJVXJdGPg83BVAIUM4eR4rwZ+m6hiXZyp2W5n/qnlFw="
Earlier versions of VMware with the older vnc-implementation didn't have it.
In VMTN some users complained about a mssing fipssig.dat but no one from VMware ever explained it.
So in some occasions I send those users a copy of my fipssig.dat which solved their issue.
Peter - I just remembered that very early versions of my MOA-stuff for WS 4.5 worked without adding something like the XPE-crypto plugin.
My latest builds all contain those functions.
But I am not 100% sure that it really is required ???

I already got to know (From VMNT etc.) that VMWare now 'needs' this FIPS.Peter - I only know that the fips-vodoo must be closely related to the SSL-implementation which in turn must be closely related to the new remote VNC options that comes with WS 6 / VMplayer 2.

But what I want to know is:
What is it? What's the reason that it exists?
Right now I only know the childrens' song
[German]
Ein kleiner Hund mit Namen Fips
Erhielt vom Onkel einen Schlips
...
[/German]
I'm rather sure that Bill G.'s Fips is something else.

..\home\All Users\Application Data\VMware\vnckeymap
and this
<a href="http://www.census.gov/geo/www/fips/fips.html" target="_blank">http://www.census.gov/geo/www/fips/fips.html</a>Federal information processing standards codes (FIPS codes) are a standardized set of numeric or alphabetic codes issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to ensure uniform identification of geographic entities through all federal government agencies. The entities covered include: states and statistically equivalent entities, counties and statistically equivalent entities, named populated and related location entities (such as, places and county subdivisions), and American Indian and Alaska Native areas.
Maybe that is used to configure the correct keyboard layout when a VM is used via VNC ?
Just guessing ...
maybe we get some explanation here ... I just asked this in VMTN
<a href="http://communities.vmware.com/thread/108485" target="_blank">http://communities.vmware.com/thread/108485</a>
I plan to bump this till we get an explanation
