Hello fellow Winimizers,

id like to use my first post to thank the creator Mr. Risch for his outstanding work! Cutting down filelist and registry is definately a first to this extent, while preserving hardware support of course.

However it seems ive run into a problem:
  • Win98 full detects my (virtual) network adapter and installs it automatically
  • Mindows fails to detect it, showing the yellow ? in device manager
  • I cant add the drivers manually, the "Add Hardware" network item wont produce a list
  • Letting it search the Windows CD comes up empty too
I have a strong feeling that im doing something wrong since its supposed to "Connect you to the internet" :confused1:
Any nudges in the right direction would be greatly appreciated :confused1:
Im using Win98SE english version, basic functionality works like a charm.

BTW Im coming up with a dare-i-say perfect win9x-on-cd guide, so your tips wont get lost :confused1:

Greetings from Germany,
Flo

What (virtual) network adapter do you have. If its Vmware virtual Network drivers, you should be able to run the Install Vmware tools and select the Network drivers to install them and the card should work. You can also try an update to network card and point to the right drivers and it should automatically pick the driver and install it. That is if the drivers is the right one.

Thanks for the reply :confused1:

Im using M$ VirtualPC, its emulating a generic Intel 21140 10/100 NIC.
Ive been looking a little into the \INF files, and it looks like these generic drivers are provided in NETPCI.INF, wich Mindows doesnt install so just popping in the Windows CD for generic drivers wont work.

After a while i found drivers for it on the net, but i would still like to know if theres a way to make it work with only the Windows CD.
(for example, will copying some additional \INF files do any good?)

Thanks,
Flo

I havent experimented further, and well it must be the fate of Windows: however little components remain, it will never run completely smooth :confused1:
(except the versions without registry, but they cant do anything useful)

Thanks for your time Mr. Hive, btw your avatar scares me :confused1:
