During an installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) or CentOS 6.4, I'm receiving the error:

Examining Storage Devices

The installation source given by device ['/dev/sda4'] could not be found.  Please check your parameters and try again.

I've tried multiple .iso extensions all resulting in the same error.

We were able to find a work-around, however it reduces the usability of the drive to a single distro installation.

Extracting from:

http://iniu.net/cont...econd-harddisk/
Copy the downloaded Oracle Enterprise linux ISO file to the USB flash
Copy the ‘images’ folder to the usb flash
Copy file ‘initrd.img’ and ‘vmlinuz’ (under the ‘isolinux’ folder) to the root of the usb flash

That means, I now have the iso on there twice and the other files, which are specific to that distro.

Is this something solved by a custom menu or setting that I'm missing?

Thanks

Not sure why it can't find it on sda4. Must be the script/code...

You could always modify the ISO by deleting the image folder from the ISO?

Modifying the ISO seems crud since we're talking about something as common as CentOS and OEL which are just dirivitives of RedHat.

Just to clarify...  on booting the USB, the ISO loads find, starts the install and one of the early questions is where to find the installation media.  At that point, I get a standard list of all the identified partitions, and as recommended I pick /dev/sda4.  All of the other partiions immediately fail, but sda4 proceeds with starting the installation.  It's diring the installation is when it does the 'examining storage devices' that it decides it can no longer find the files it needs on sda4.

Thanks

Sure - the problem seems to be that it doesn't like sda4 at that point.

It was suggested to me that the network install ISO works if you add a repository to the USB drive (not sure if it works on an ntfs drive).

I am typing this from fleshly installed CentOS 6.4 (CentOS-6.4-i386-LiveCD.iso), first used default boot option, booted to Live CD desktop, rebooted and selected "Install" option, that from NTFS formatted 32GB USB flash disk, using similar as easy2boot method. During partitioning screen deleted 3rd primary partition on the internal hard disk, made new primary partition there and set it for root mount point, all the rest were the default options.

Wanman, which exact ISO did you use for CentOS, with link please?

What media are you installing from? What file system?

Has the USB media been modified afterwards in any way?

Did you use PLoP or grub4dos USB 2.0 driver?

Which boot option do you exactly use?

That ISO seems to be OK, it is CentOS-6.4-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso that seems to have a problem.

Yes, correct in using the DVD iso.  Minimal or netinstall works.  I have not tried the netinstall to another location on the USB, but will shortly.

Thanks

If using ext3/4 CentOS might work if you copy only the directory images, even only images.img and maybe TRANS.TBL from it inside the directory, holding the ISO file. At start of Anaconda, select the partition holding the ISO file and type in the field below the directory name holding the ISO image.

Ref:

https://fedoraprojec...naconda/Options

http://fedoraproject...ckstart#install

https://fedoraprojec...lation_problems

NTFS seems not supported, that's quite rare for the end of year 2013, ISO is too big for FAT32.

Quick glance at the log files, anaconda stage 1 finds and uses the isohybrid partition /dev/sdX4, stage 2 is where it fails.

There should be much better approach- netinst ISO and repos/images elsewhere, if netinst have the same functionality.

Trying Oracle now, smaller ISO will fit on FAT32, will update posts with results.

Added:

Oracle Linux did work. Using 6.4 i386 DVD (V37085-01.iso) on FAT32, images directory copied inside /ISO/ directory, where the ISO file is as well, at start of installer typed ISO and selected /dev/sda1. Currently it's at ~60% of installing packages stage.

Drawback- another ISO of this type must go in another directory, to be accompanied by different /images directory.

A bit off-topic- digging a bit further about NTFS support during install- nothing, but the typical RedHat response attitude and speedy bugfixes...

Not even closed yet...

It took them several years to fix critical bug in their Perl packages which severely affected any program which relies on Perl:

If you are using a removable USB flash drive, when you boot to WinPE, you should see a blue console windows as here (but there will be no repair option offered).

If you don't get see this window then the ISO will not be mounted as drive Y: (which is the default drive letter).

The console window runs due to wpeinit running. So you should check startnet.cmd runs wpeinit.

This thread is about CentOS. Can you start a new thread for this issue please under Easy2Boot and can you post in French because I cannot understand your English.
