virus protection / firewall recommendations

hi all

for years I have been using AVG internet security for myself and customers - and to a degree it works well - but getting really fed up with all the new versions including so much other crap such as registry tune-up, driver update etc etc - which my customers don't need, and in some cases (registry tuneup) causes more problems than good

Looking round it seems that most of the big virus companies are doing this crap too now

Any recommendations for a good virus tool, that simply does a good job of protecting you without all the bells and whistles?

I use Avast (free home user version), and I'm satisfied with it.

I'm not disturbed with unnecessary functionalities.

Of course,on the first start you maybe have to modify the standard protection behaviour.

In the last version there came a (GOOD) addon: Tells you when one of your installed programs like JAVA, Adobe tools, etc. got a security update and directs you to the download, if wanted.

One thing: when installing, look carefully at every dialog, and do not install such nice addons like Google chrome, <????> toolbar etc.

Maybe that these addons appear only in the free version ...

Personally the added functionalities don't affect me - but I run a PC support company and a lot of my users are elderly and/or not good with computers - so the least that pops-up or utilities that they can play with to muck up registry etc - is better for me recommending to them

The good addon you mention sounds useful in this case

I use Avast antivirus Free since two years ago and Malwarebytes Antimalware free (just in case), and make a quick scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware free weekly (2 or 3 minutes), I haven't found any virus on my system.

use MSE for your customers its free and provides good protection and doesn't spam them with requests
