Hi guys - I kept finding when googling for support that I would end up at this site so thought I might aswell post here!
I don't even remember half of the stuff I was trying last night - I fell asleep looking at isolinux.cfg files and such  :(

What I'm trying to do is update my old multiboot USB that never worked well (most hyrens tools etc would fail to load, and the miniXP had no sata drivers so no local HDs)

.

What I have is old hyrens, new hyrens (working miniXP, yay), ophcrack 7 & xp, and konboot.

I've never done Linux stuff besides boot utils and I'm new to the likes of konboot.  All I want really is a bootable USB where I can run XP live for getting rid of persistently active malware outside the windows environment, ophcrack for forgotten passwords, and konboot for not needing to change them.  I could make them all into separate USBs but I already have about 5 in my pocket the whole time and it's annoying!

I've had various problems whilst trying various setups - I've used unetbootin, xboot, and stuff to try and get it working.  Right now I've got it so konboot works (after doing the drive-swap fix on this thread http://reboot.pro/to...ot-not-working/) and new hyrens runs miniXP but if I say DOSprograms it shows a bunch of stuff about disc info and then boots into windows.  Old hyrens I think runs but also boots into windows if I try running anything.
It's driving me mad and I figured someone might have premade menus/instructions for such a combination that works.  I've even had to hack the old hyren's ISO to take out minXP (not enough USB disk space!) and the new hyren's to add notepad in  :o

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but..

ophcrack is launch -folder "tables\"-folder and it works straight from syslinux assuming G4D too. Konboot I am not sure of never used it as it moved to shareware or something. Wonder does 'hyrens' mean 'Hiren's' CD but that boot clean from syslinux as an ISO even so can't be the same deal. Not sure which MiniXP you mean or how it's loaded, but all of those as far I can see together won't take more than 4GB USB stick, so, you sure most have damn small USB's at your pocket. MS-DOS again can be booted from 3 files and G4D in at hardware heck you don't even need to trouble with floppy images.

Yup I'm trying to fit it all on a simply 2G I was previously using for simple multiUSB booting. I have others but since they "just fit" (albeit without old hiren's miniXP that didn't support sata anyway) I'm trying to use the 2g one!

What sounds simple to you when you talk about g4d and syslinux is all greek to me.  I have used various tools like xboot and managed to shuffle the menu.lst files around a bit etc but I really know nothing about how it all works or the commands being used etc.

I guess I made the mistake of thinking it would be simple to boot from separate ISO files (2 hirens, 2 ophcrack, 1 konboot) from 1 USB. All these tools to make it work yet I still get various problems.

Right now konboot is working so I'm reluctant to change anything there.

The hirens ones run but the old one ends up booting to HDD, the new one fails DOSprograms menu and boots to HDD, but at least the new one does run miniXP with full sata support etc.

OPHcrack ones seem to work ok.

Maybe I should use something other than xboot - which seems to load up the ISOs fine but for the hirens ones they go in as grub4dos emulation or something

Maybe I should use something other than xboot ...

Or maybe something different from WAREZ.  :dubbio:

Xboot isn't warez is it?  I just need to get a working solution for miniXP with sata (hyrens has always been the best I've used) alongside konboot/ophcrack for lockouts.  I go dizzy looking at the menus and such of what people have come up with it's amazing.  In comparison I felt this was reasonably simple.  But since I'm windows based I don't understand most of the bootloading stuff so look to others/tools that can make it.

Xboot no, of course :), but the miniXP (and the download containing it) represents unauthorized re-distribution of non-redistributable files (please read as WAREZ).

The problem with Xboot is that - due to a very sad occurrence - it is a not anymore supported app, you have to take it "as is", and if it works, good, if it doesn't there is no way that it can be fixed:

http://reboot.pro/to...-cd-with-xboot/

http://reboot.pro/to...riam-of-shamur/

You may want to use another tool to create the bootable USB (and I personally suggest you to not use those WAREZ).

RMPREPUSB is a suitable tools and (IMHO wrongly or inconsiderately) supports that WAREZ release.

As a side note, consider how on this board there are here:

http://reboot.pro/fo...-project-forge/

a dedicated section to that particular WAREZ release, and one dedicated to XBOOT, though you managed to post in a more generic section.

JFYI, we have now an alternative (experimental) to Konboot called PassPass (and no it isn't a plug ;)) which is both Free as in Freedom and free as in free beer:

http://reboot.pro/to...s-the-password/

Offtopic,

Where's the old-school spirit of endless PCBoards and ISDN 24 boxes from you Wonko the Sane.. At least on those days we had pirated smodem and 16 hour sessions to get super mario downloaded beside the cool NFOs, look at where we are now flaming over another builder who simply happened to disagree with few lisence agreements.  ;)

Back to topic..

RMPREPUSB might be a bit too much, if the fellow knows absolutely nothing of booting on USB, lol and looking at tools needed to brake all airport machine passwords, well, I'd check 'YUMI' it should boot all those tools with syslinux clean 2 clicks on the menu to do so.

Hi guys

@wonko - I am looking at rmprepusb and easy2boot now to see how it works out, since you have recommended it as xboot is deceased.

Looking at passpass that looks good although it requires HDD modifications that need to be done, rebooted, used, rebooted, undone - whereas konboot's beauty is it just runs, boots, used, and then you turn off and walk away.  I guess it's 2 different approaches but I think the easier one involving no mods and less reboot time is simpler?

@genetix - you're right man I know very little about the inner workings of this stuff.  I've never used Linux or grub or anything so I'm playing everything by ear and throwing random Linux commands at me doesn't mean anything sadly  :P  I did actually use YUMI for my last multiboot USB but the problem was that even though it would boot things like hirens I found if I ran tools from within they would fail their linuxy type loading and I know nothing about linux to try and fix it - so they ended up just being used for miniXP which was outdated so didn't support SATA anyway.

I guess in theory if I could build my own miniXP and get my own tools like ophcrack/konboot/ghost to work then I wouldn't need to combine all the stuff?  But that is beyond my understanding so I leave it to you experts who've been doing it and making tools for it for years  :P

@genetix
Strangely enough -and JFYI - the only SuperMario I ever used was on a GameBoy which I bought to actually play Tetris (and my nephew's lent me once a perfectly legit SuperMario cartridge).

BTW everyone is perfectly free to NOT draw lines on the sand or to ignore them ( but once they are drawn, they cannot be moved here and there where you like them to be), check the "but ... then why?" in my signature.

@Leozack
As expected, the reason is always the same: shortcuts are so much more convenient, anything else counts nothing when it comes to cool and "easy".
By the same token in theory (example) you could walk some 200 yards to throw your litter in a dustbin, but it soo difficult and inconvenient, it is much easier to throw it on the sidewalk and let the street cleaners take care of that (they do it since years and are very expert at it :)).

What will you do when you will actually need it and find out that the 1.0 version of KonBoot (Free) is outdated and works not on a number of OS, and that you need the Commercial version?

Free Kon-Boot version is still available but it does not support 64 bit systems and Windows 7/Windows 8. It also does not include privilege escalation and sticky keys feature and support for EFI platforms.

  1. Look for free alternatives
  2. Buy the Commercial version license
  3. look for some other WAREZ containing the new version

Please choose one.

Haha did you get out the wrong side of bed this morning wonko or do you just need more coffee?  :P

I am all for learning how to do things - but as a purely windows habitat techy I am unfamiliar with the Linux environments used for all this multibooting and as such I've had to google around, read up, and use tools and tutorials for things.

Right now however it is a simple case of trying to get things which work independently to work when on the same USB.  Konboot works, ophcrack works, the hirens run but don't seem to load anything onwards themselves - though the newer miniXP works (much to your disgrace - despite abandoned legit XP keys being more common then stray cats in malta or something)  :P  I'm not interested in the legality of how something works as long as I own licences - I just need it to work.  Common sense > technicalities, yes?

Having looked at lots of stuff on this site today I'm surprised you haven't brought a more encouraging response if you were trying to convert me from being a lazy warez user or whatever you think I am.  Something like "actually if all you want is an XP environment, ghost, ophcrack and konboot, then might I interest you in something like winbuilder listed on this site to make a live XP boot, combined with rmprepusb to make the others work" or something  :P

This error looks similar to what I get if I choose "dos programs" but don't see how the code posted relates to my menu, and it errors if I try using it

My Menu segment relating to it is this :

### MENU START

ls /images/hirensbootcd.iso || find --set-root /images/hirensbootcd.iso
map --heads=0 --sectors-per-track=0 /images/hirensbootcd.iso (0xff) || map --heads=0 --sectors-per-track=0 --mem /images/hirensbootcd.iso (0xff)

Well, that would tag me immediately as "captain obvious" :w00t:.

This site was (mainly) born to develop the Winbuilder tool as an alternative (more featured) than good ol' BartPE (and BTW capable of creating PE 2.x, 3.x and 4.x besides the "traditional" PE 1.x - and JFYI, that it is not a XP environment, it is a PE 1.x environment, which is not exactly the same thing).

My site and Easy2Boot should be what you are looking for. There are also two tutorials on HCBD.

Hirens is difficult to get to boot from an ISO (especially the DOS utils) - really you need to extract the ISO to the USB drive.

Easy2Boot has a .mnu file for Hirens (one for ISO one for extracted files) - A FAT32 USB drive is best for the extracted Hirens.

re. ISO booting - If you follow the instructions you can make a dos img file once booted to Hirens miniXP - see Step 6 on this page. This then allows you to boot and run Hirens Dos utilities even from an NTFS USB drive.

re. WAREZ - I do not condone WAREZ generally, however I make an exception with Hirens XP. The reason is that MS are the owners of the software and they simply don't care about XP! Many small shops in many countries openly sell PCs with hacked copies of XP and MS do nothing to prosecute them. In addition, Hirens CDs are openly for sale on eBay. MS could easily stop this - all they have to do is complain to eBay and eBay would not allow Hirens CDs to be sold - but they obviously have not complained. Other companies do complain if any copyright or fake articles are sold on eBay (as I found out once when I inadvertently tried to sell a counterfeit Louis Vuittons bag on eBay!). So it is clear to me that Hirens is not deemed as harming MS as they clearly cannot be bothered to even stop it's sale on eBay (or the sites that it can be downloaded from). They do however actively police sites that try to offer Win7 or 8 for download.

In other words you shift the line in the sand where you want or simply fancy it to be (it would be much more senceful to either respect  or ignore it) .

And you are not respecting the author's declared will, you are pretty much convinced that you can get away with not respecting it without consequences, not entirely unlike littering the street, but only when the policemen are looking the other way.

Or only throwing away cans of Coke as they are very prevalent, and thus not really litter.

Pepsi and diet Coke are of course another thing:

http://uranus.chrysocome.net/coke.htm

About people selling it on e-bay, and how easy would it be for MS to stop that, we have already been there:

http://reboot.pro/to...t-these-forums/

http://reboot.pro/to...-hiren-on-ebay/

http://reboot.pro/to...related-topics/

Do you have an idea of the amount of stolen goods (besides the counterfeit ones) sold every day on e-bay? :unsure:

An example of someone that provided a freeware tool as non-redistributable and was actually flattered to have it  included in that WAREZ release  we do not have to look very far, do we?

This is from the RMPREPUSB page:

RMPrepUSB and RMPartUSB are freeware utilities for private use only - no registration is required, and all versions are unlimited versions and do not contain any adware or viruses.
Please do not distribute these utilities without the authors permission as these utilities are not 'copyright free', 'free software', 'Open Source' or 'Open Licence' products, but are products which are made available for private use at zero cost.

Commercial use (i.e. selling it or including it in another product) and/or re-distribution is forbidden and you need to contact RM for licensing costs if you wish to include or re-distribute it as part of a commercial solution.
Email: support@rm.com for multiple user licence enquiries and ask for Classroom Technologies department.
Please note: No licence is required for the internal use of RMPrepUSB by technicians/engineers within a company.

Another page on your site:

http://reboot.pro/to...ows-7/?p=167588

states how the thingy is illegal but according to your interpretation of the Law it is OK if one has a licence for XP.

Hiren's Boot CD (HBCD) is a heavily modified and illegal version of Microsoft Windows XP. However, it is very prevalent on the internet and the ISO file can be easily downloaded. If you have a licence to run Windows XP on your computer (e.g. if your computer has a Windows XP, Windows Vista Business or Ultimate or Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate Certificate Of Authenticity label on it) then you can legally run XP (but only on that computer - but not dual boot!).

Hiren's Boot CD 13.2 and later versions even includes RMPrepUSB v2.1.620, even though no permission was asked and the software is copyrighted and distribution is forbidden! However, in this case I will regard it as a form of flattery!

So, if I were to release some good WAREZ PE, would you tolerate my unathorized redistribution of your tool, as a form of flattery?

BTW, as explained in great length in other threads, there are tens of similar (or "better") WAREZ releases, wouldn't it be only too fair to the nice guys putting them together and distributing them, to shift a little bit more the line on the sand and consider them "legal if you have a proper licence" /and support them)?

Or should we wait until they are "very prevalent"? (but how can they ever become prevalent if we are not allowed to talk about them, nor support them? :dubbio:)

For NO apparent reason:

If a tree falls in a forest:

http://en.wikipedia....lls_in_a_forest

No (but you would ask first anyway) and I don't tolerate the sale of RMPrepUSB (i.e. inside Hirens) on eBay either, which is why I contact the sellers of Hirens CDs every few months and point out to them that they are illegally selling my (actually RM's) software and to remove the CDs from eBay within 48 hrs or I will report them to eBay and have their account suspended. I also point out that much of the other software on Hirens is copyright protected and not legal to distribute. This usually works but then another load of sellers pop up a month later! If you would like to contact eBay and point out that Hirens is illegal (as I have done several times) please do so.

So, it is OK unless some random guy makes a few bucks out of selling them on e-bay.

The publicity on the "official"  site or "donations" do not count, of course.

I see :smiling9:.

Have you ever noticed how you CANNOT find the actual download on the "official" site:

http://www.hiren.info/

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

But you can find it on the site you link to that has - among the FAQ's, FAQ #4:

By whom is this website being developed? Do you accept donations?

This website is being developed by a few long term users and fans of Hiren’s BootCD. Hiren’s BootCD saved our lifes and helped us many times. We thank and appreciate Hiren for develeping this great BootCD.

Homepage of this product is http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd and developer of this product is Hiren. This website is not related with Hiren.

We are aware the difficulties about finding and downloading a safe version of this BootCD and finding help about it. We hope this website to overcome these difficulties a little bit.

Donations made over the Donation link on this website directly goes to developer Hiren, we don’t get anything from this donations.

To support high bandwidth usage, to keep this website alive and for giving a better service to you we only accept mirror servers as donation.

Even the distribution is unofficial :w00t: .

And BTW, this is FAQ #3:

Can you send a physical copy of the CD to my address?

Because of the problems related with slow download speeds, burning and etc. we are getting requests for sending a physical copy of the CD. Unfortunately we can’t offer a that kind of help with or without a price.

The reasons why CD's are not directly sold by the officially unofficial site are not explained in detail, the poor guys on e-bay are offering a replacement service for a glitch in the officially unoffical distribution process, as I see it :innocent:.

Haha wow - started a bit of a flaming here  ;)

Yeah I know what YUMI is - I used it for my previous multiboot but I was frustrated by the fact things like hirens DOS programs would fail to load, the miniXP had no SATA drivers, and other ISOs failed too.  It was annoying because most the stuff worked on its own but not combined - so it was mainly just used to run network ghost ...

That's why I'm now trying to build something with newer tools/tutorials that will actually get stuff booting properly.

Yes hirens used to have illegal software included, but afaia it's all freeware/shareware on there now so it should be legit.  Unless you're saying the PE environment you boot into isn't legal.  But as much as you want to compare me to someone who litters, or steals - the fact is if I can boot something working that uses someone elses key when I already have my own key then the only legal technicality is my lack of changing a key in a file somewhere and not even MS cares about that.  Also phone them if you want and you will basically get told to do what you want with XP (I have had them say this) because they don't care and about to pull the plug anyways.  However I saw some 'DLV' version of hirens around the place in my research the last 2 days, saying mini win7?  That would obviously be straight up on the highly illegal chart for MS as they are actively against pirating of their actual sold software (XP isn't sold - it's abandonware).

Eitherway I'm not endorsing piracy but if my mate runs a cake shop and says I can have a cake for free cos he isn't going to sell it or lets me use his oven for free cos he has a new one, then I'm not going to argue against him  :P

If I dare get back on topic ............. the easy2boot stuff seemed to work well - my notes from before work say "konboot should move to main menu, new hirens ISO needs to appear main menu (old hirens extracted seems ok), Ophcrack can lose the <512m slow option"

So OPHs work, konboot works, win98SE floppy works, hirens old & new work (old for DOS programs, new for minixp).  I hd to move the new hirens (mini xP) ISO/mnu into MAINMENU as it wasn't appearing when left in UTILITIES.

All looking good!  Just need to reorder the menu I think.

@steve - easy2boot seems to have got this all working - but I'm now wondering if I could use the mnu items that I am using (bare in mind I'm only using like 5 or 6 items) to go back from e2b to using just g4d and the right menu items and everything should work as it does now, but I would have easier control of the listing, and it would be quicker as no need to scan the folders and stuff, and no uneeded menu entries.  Is that possible or is e2b doing loads of important stuff to make it work that won't if used direct in g4d?

Sure it is possible. You need to make sure that partition 4  (last primary partition) entry on your USB boot drive is free (used by linux ISOs). This is checked by the menu.lst in E2B on boot.

If a .mnu is used then you can just translate that to a menu.lst entry.

If no .mnu is used, then an entry in \_ISO\e2b\grub\QRUN.g4b will be used - just look at the relevant section of code in that file and that will be your menu.lst entry.

P.S. Did you put the hirens mnu/iso in \_ISO\UTILITIES\Utility  folder ???

You can re-order the menu just by renaming the ISO/mnu files.

Let me know if you have any Q's.

Naah, a flame is something entirely different, this is a plain discussion/exchange of ideas.

Good, and the good guys at MS did tell you "here, grab a PE, with our compliments", right? :dubbio:

:cheers:

Ok so I tried moving everything into standard g4d because it's quicker and I have limited menu items.  I've got everything working so far except now the hirens 15.2 minixp entry says image not found - whereas it is definitely in the right place, and the similarly loaded win98se and freedos images load fine.  Any thoughts?  :/  Oh yeah I put the recovery console entry in there I found online but looks like I need a lot of work to use that and need to acquire the actual 'image' to boot

I meant you should extract the code from qrun

errorcheck off
:: ignore error if not contiguous
if not exist CD partnew (hd0,3) 0x0 %1
errorcheck on
map %1 (0xff) || map --mem %1 (0xff)
map --mem (bd)/%grub%/winvblock.img.gz (fd0)
map --mem (bd)/%grub%/winvblock.img.gz (fd1)
#if not exist CD map (hd1) (hd0)
#if not exist CD map (hd0) (hd1)
map --hook
root (0xff) || rootnoverify (0xff)
chainloader (0xff)/I386/setupldr.bin || chainloader (0xff)/I386/setupldr.bin || chainloader (0xff)/ntldr || chainloader (0xff)/bootmgr || chainloader (0xff)
exit

You can see that the grub variable is assumed to be set and that it tries to load winvblock.img.gz

Sorry - I made my attempts before I saw your latest posts - I can try correcting that.

Ok I just put in the above code form qemu into my boot, making %1 to be "\image\HirensISO.isowinvh".  It seemed to load the iso (took a minute to load 600m in!  Not used to it taking any time?) but then has errored saying error 27: unrecognised command - any key goes back to main menu.  Hmmm nearly ...
