WinPE USMT OFFLINE MIGRATION

So im having some issues here trying to use scanstate within Winpe. USMT4 supports the offlinewindir switch to be able to backup via usmt from within WinPE. 

scanstate.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running....".

I have tried both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of this file and get the same error message.  The USMT scanstate.exe file has come from the WAIK, I have tried both version of scanstate.exe (amd64 and x86) from inside the C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\USMT directory

Ive tried both of htem on WinPE that was built with a x86 source, and a x64 source, so im lost as to why its telling me this. Anyone?

I don't know that particular tool, but from the error message I would assume the issue to be (as it clearly says) a Windows version issue. Not architecture, but version. What WinPE version are you using and for what version was that usmt tool built for? Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8?

Probably you cannot run the tool from within WinPE made from XP e.g. LiveXP

May be you can try to boot with Win 7PE

Most likely the tool can be used after booting with Portable Win7 VHD from USB or HDD

Win8 can be installed direct to USB by using WinNTSetup2

Booting with Win8 from USB will probably also work for you

Probably you need then better OS.

Portable Win 7 / 8 VHD have the same registry as full Windows 7 / 8

and in any case more drivers and services and more system32 files as compared to 7 PE

You can try to boot with full Win 7 / 8 from USB or use Portable Win 7 / 8 VHD
