ISO Quest

Hello All,

First, I would like to thank you very much for even the expectance of having LiveXP working for me, for that would be a marvelous achievement, for everything it makes possible!

But it seems I need to learn more over what must be simpler than I can understand. So, I ask you please to help me on my third attempt with LiveXP, to see where I'm getting wrong, or lacking anything.

Certainly, my previous attempts didn't make the .iso file, as I couldn't find it in the LiveXP folder, although all intuitive info I got from Winbuilder was about 1 missing (I think), but not that it was fatal, or that the attempt was therefore aborted.

So, as it provided a log.html file, should I post it in this thread (in the case how to paste or attach it), or could you please ask, or suggest me something?

When you zip the log.html, it will become rather small, and you can post it (usually) here
Unfortunatelly for new members with only some posts, the ability to post here is not offered.
But you can upload to any public server like mediafire, and post the link here.

@amalux: Thank you. Possibly, it was good to read it again, as I see maybe I shouldn't check the audio drivers (oh well), and I can't be sure my downloaded original XP sp3 pro iso is that absolutely UNmodified... :-)

I see from the log.html that I should debug the log prior to disposing it. But I coudn't manage to get it back in Winbuilder, so that you may tell how to get it, if necessary. I can run Winbuilder again if you find better.

You are right. Creating a LiveXP is typically very simple. Just need to unzip the project to somewhere, run winbuilder.exe then choose the source of Windows XP files and it is done.

The log will help us check what is wrong, in the meanwhile I can also suggest some things:
- Use a short path like "d:winbuilder"
- Download a full package from our download page at http://reboot.pro/files
- Run with winbuilder.exe with admin permissions
- Check if you have enough free disk on your computer
- Disable any anti-virus that might be running (sometimes they interfere, just to test)
- Double-check your Windows XP source. It needs to be a retail version (not a OEM version) and you need extract all files from the ISO file onto a folder on disk

Ok, just about all the troubleshooting tips that I could remember from memory.

I hope you can get this working, keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry for delaying. I've got quite sure I would get no response anymore. Oh, and also sorry for my strange English. ;-)

I'm quite sure having seen you all over the net, so nice to get your advices, which I will follow - many thanks.

I would just like to advance that, maybe, my aim with WinBuilder isn't possible, as users don't seem to work on such kind of project. Live windows full of apps for repairs and recoverings are undispensable, for sure, but to be used only when needed. What about one which might be needed continuously by most privacy concerned people? It already exists in linux, you know, like Icognito, Anonymous, Amnesic, Tails, but that could be even better with windows (or so I think). Thus, I would ask if is it possible to create a windows live (really fully RAM live) CD, with no apps, but just drivers, network, or just all what may be needed to simply run any portable apps?

The point is making possible the safe/paranoid behavior of setup disabling all HDs, boot that CD, then plug a pen drive containing only truecrypt (or such) and a big encrypted file, which is quite sensually opened into the pure RAM (oh yes), having inside it several handy portable apps and all their respective user's top secret files! :-)

It seems there's no project named ENIGMA, yet... ;-)

Well, I think it would be off topic to suggest which are some privacy targeted portable apps, especially for internet secure/anonymous navigation, but its just about looking out for them. Anyway, have one or two hidden backups of that pen drive and that's all one's relieving private virtual life - secure, easy to carry, to hide, to throw away and certainly to lose, though without losings! :-]

So my difficulty have been not just to successfully create *any* live cd, but also wondering what are those simultaneously minimal and sufficient functions, plugins, or so, to create the above mentioned "simple" live CD.

Any help on that will be much appreciated.

what about making a winbuilder edition for linuxes
all windowses works awesome but i hawe trouble finding a good live linux in the confortable style of winbuilder products
is there any active projects about that ?
