Hello,

Finally finished the build of installer and compile vblade ( AoE Target ) for Windows ! see www.winaoe.org

vBlade is a Target Server for ATA over Ethernet Protocol, similar to iSCSI...

vBlade support .iso, .img and .vhd files.

To run vblade command without a Console Window i suggest to use HSTART

http://www.ntwind.co...are/hstart.html

With HSTART you can make a lot of .bat files with many Targets and RUN all without a console.

Does this mean we would be able to issue the SATA Secure Erase Command from Windows?

Boot_Monkey,

lol, now i understand.. very funny http://tinyapps.org/...ves_hdparm.html

Obviously i preffer Linux with vbladed because is more secure and robust solution, AoE in linux since 2005 native with distros.

But for Windows sysadmins to know vblade AoE, is a great start point...

vblade is now for Windows and free for all !

Hello Mr. Rebit!

I had exacly the same problem as one user from Facebook. But if I can say for future users, the problem is with VHD files which having some problems.
First what I tried is regular VHD which is maded from regular create wizard of VirtualBox. Installed Windows XP and what is needed for AoE. With HEX editor I saw that in first part of VHD file (header) is some text what is probably from VirtualBox. That VHD file isnt usable in booting from LAN - AoE.
Next, I deleted regular VHD from first step and made a new hard drive VHD image file. Again installed Windows XP and all of AoE. With HEX editor saw that this VHD isnt a same as VHD from first step! There isnt rubbish of VirtualBox and header is regular as the NTFS needs to be. This VHD file is very usable for AoE!

I dont known how is whith Windows 7 but I am now trying to make a system with Windows XP.

Best regards,
GNikolic.

I am sorry but I am not so good with videos but I will send information about testing.
You have little different site on https... why?

I am noticed that if PC started with AoE when restarted with hot restart click on PC case, PC cant boot again. I must to stop vblade and to start again. Is there some solution to restart vblade when it is not used from PCs on the network?

You said somewhere that Linux had AoE since 2005 (?). Solution on Linux is better, or what?

GNikolic.

I have two websites

- one how-to for iscsi --> http://windowsdiskless.wordpress.com

- two ho-to for aoe --> http://windowsdiskle...e.wordpress.com

i cant reproduce your error, im not have this error here, i restart the machines and all ok.

Vblade for Linux is more complete and more easy. Just install aoe-tools. I recommend Ubuntu.

Well, I didnt aware that you have two different sites. I thouth that you arranged a new version of site.... :dots: and I having a problems finding some pages... :book: ...

Well I have a brand new PC with Asus P8Z68-V MoBo inside and having some problems with network 1Gbit/s card. When not using any of virtual software, network card is working like a lighting but when using some of these apps, after some time, NIC just wont work. Internet is working but everything internaly and with computers in my LAN isnt working. I need to restart host mashine.
Maybe I used virtual software in same time with trying to boot from AoE and forcely restart AoE computer. Will check that and will post here.

About your last sentence is my next q.
I am interesting like you too in boot PXE but having some problems. This part with AoE is working greatly and booting WinPE .WIM file from TFTPD32 is working great as separate project. But (allways is some but) cant implement and connect that two projects.
When using TFTPD32 for booting pxeboot.n12 as boot file, WinPE .WIM file is booting beatifull!
But when tried .WIM from GRUB4DOS with Uwe.Ruttkamp DHCP server, on both real PC and virtual, having a same error (something like) "TFTP erro booting"...

Is it possible that TFTP server on Uwe.Ruttkamp DHCP server is different and have less capabilitys with TFTPD32?

How about TFTP server on Linux? Is there some problems?

Best regards,
GNikolic.

Site where found a something about this is http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/pxe
I used in GRUB4DOS

pxe keep

chainloader --raw (pd)/Boot/pxeboot.n12

but error while booting is "TFTP download failed. Press any key to reboot"...

In that folder I have BCD, bootmgr, pxeboot.n12, both of WIMs... Where is the problem...? What options are you using in your menu.lst?
Is it a problem with TFTP server? Maybe to try TFTPD32 for both projects?

Got it!

Thanx to NetFanTom from http://reboot.pro/2449/ it is working with Uwe.Ruttkamp DHCP server (and TFTP server inside)!
Bootmgr.exe should be outside of boot folder where reside everything about .WIM file... where reside grldr...

I did that, but (?!?!?!) virtual pc starts to boot from WIM and after some 3-4% there was an error
"0xc0000001 The boot selection failed beacause the required device is inaccessible."

BUMP!!!!

I am confused now! :)))

Ok. Everything is fine. The problem is with TFTP server. I've used TFTPD32 as DHCP and as TFTP and evrything is working just fine on real PC and on virtual PC...

I am so happy!

Hi Gnikolic,

Nice enviroment you have !

To boot WinPE directly by PXE im using any DHCP,TFTP server with bootfilename as 'grldr' and with this entry menu:

title WinPE loaded Full
map --mem (pd)/isos/winpe.iso (0xff)
map --hook
chainloader (0xff)

I know you are using .wim files, but i dont know nothing about .WIM files !! Make a how-to for us !

You can export the winpe.iso file with Vblade too, and just load normally with a menu entry.

[ ] ´s

plase make a celular video to explain how you do that !

regards !

Hi Mr. rebit again!

Main difference with booting whole ISO file and just WIM file is that for ISO you need (if ISO is weight some ~800MB+/-) more than 800MB just for loading ISO to memory and after that you must have some free memory to load from WIM file to memory. On the other hand, for loading just WIM file, you need just what MB weight is that WIM file.

Well I just cant bellive what I am reading... Well I am just regular user and on reboot.pro there are so many users that are claver than me and probably they have a better knowledge of this. I am very good teacher in serbian language but in english I am not so good and I think it is better for somebody else to write a how-to... Dont be angry on me because of it...

Didnt aware about using ISO with vblade... It is working.... Just fine... So suprised... I thought that everything what gone used with vblade needs AoE driver and CCBootClient to bee installed... It is working...

I can test something... more and I will send a feedback...

Test something now... It cant boot LiveXP ISO with vblade... It is saying "SETUPLDR: Couldn't open drive multi....."...

Will try tommorow... but dont know why it isnt working... will test...

Thanx but really I know what I am capable and for not. I am glad to saw your videos and I am pleased that someone figureout how to make something but you are forceing me to do something what I am not capable.

I can help by testing and I am now trying to make menu.lst with menus for every usefull CD/DVD what I have and will post here to have everybody.

Thanx in support and dont be angry.

Regarding WIM file, it is Windows Image file for takeing an image of Windows (ONLY) installations on partition and it is file image not RAW. For me it is better to have image of Windows in WIM and not in GHO (Ghost).
And one more. You have and WIM file inside Vista, 7 and/or Windows 8 inside source folder into ISO file. With Imagex (tool from M$) you can mount or do anything with WIM file and there is GUI tool GImagex for same thing.

Regarding booting from LAN via vBlade, not every ISO can do that. Tested now BackTrack 5-gnome and there is error message with kernel panic...

Will try and test again...

Best regards,
GNikolic.

---
There is some guidenes with menu.lst... http://reboot.pro/2936/
Not everything is working with me...

---
And I am very much interested in booting extracted ISO to some folder (ISO, ERD50...) and boot from LAN from those folders and not from ISO files because most of these tools are not usable with older machines with <= 512 or 256mb of RAMs...

Any help from gurus is very appreticated...

Hello All!

Everybody who is interested for AoE I have a new informations and maybe have a few proposals and questions.
Just implemented today AoE with TFTPD32 Services. Haveing two 2008 Servers where first is AD, SQL and Exchange and on the other is Kaspersky KIT and File Server. DHCP on the first server needs to be configured for TFTP options 66 and 67 and second server needs to have opened UDP/69 port. When configured like this, booting diskless workstations is very easy. But I have some amount of small hard drives (20-40GB) and installed grldr on it and make default booting from example vhd only for that PC. Setup a pagefile on that hard drive and it is working just fine.
Had one error with aoe32.dll (STOP 0x00000024) when tryed to install office 2007. Latter I install Office too easy. Maybe the error is because the network utilisation is too way high. First time I connected to PC via VNC (when aoe32.dll crashed) and second one is with real keyboard and mouse.

I think that when installing applications and SP from M$ slowdown a PC pretty good and because of this I think that it is a better solution to install every application and SP from M$ on virtual PC on VirtualBox and later to move that VHD file to the real machine. When not installing anything on PC booted from AoE, that PC is working preatty fast.
I am thinkin that this machine (Celeron 2,4 with 768MB) will be slower with real hard drive than AoE!

I will tested with 1GB of RAM if that is the problem but when there is some huge amount of network utiliisation, Windows XP is slower...

Didnt tested 7...

vBlade started with Windows scheduler and it is started after server restart...

this software is great news. Will try as soon as I can. In absence of this I spent hours and hours learning about linux just to have vblade running so that I could play with AOE. I got it running in the end and it works fine but being a Windows person I'd rather have it all on Windows. Makes life so much easier. Can't wait to see how it compares to Linux vblade. If anyone tried comparing speed please share.

Well I had those errors when tryied an image of partition/disk from a real PC. Cant get an usable image application anywhere... Any application made image but if I analyze image with hex editor, I cant find any error.
Latter found that it is better solution to make VHD file on VirtualBox with fix image size and to install AoE driver with CCBootClient and to start that VHD file via vBlade. Any other way to make a VHD with my PCs isnt usable!

Latter I start VHD on real network, joined to domain and start to install M$ SPs and applications what users needs, sow that installing all these is very, very slow. Does defragment is good idea because it takes hours to defrag?

GNikolic.
