Hi folks,

I've been attempting to build my own Win7PE using Wimb and Xuantian's PE's as a basis for my own. It's now pretty much working, although it's taking a very long time to boot and actually get logged in.

When I boot my PE, it sits at the login screen with a message saying "Please wait..." - it appears as though it has to wait for this inital login to timeout (this takes approx 10 minutes). Then I see two login boxes, one for Administrator and one for Guest. I can login successfully if I click the Administrator box, but again it takes some more time.

I suspect it has something to do with the computer name or the fact that I want to logon using the Administrator account, but I'm really struggling to get any further with this.

Please can one of you gurus out there point me in the right direction of what I need to do to get this working a little better. I'm trying to automate the logon, removing any prompts - and to speed the whole process up...

Hopefully, the two things are linked so solving one should solve the other - but I just can't work out where I'm going wrong here...

Any ideas or suggestions are greatfully received ;-)

Many thanks in advance.

G

OK, bit more info. I'm trying to use explorer.exe as the shell. If I use Wimb's patched winlogon.exe it does an autologon but using the SYSTEM account. This is OK, except that I can't open Control Panel - it errors with a user context error.

If I don't use the custom patched winlogon.exe - I get the extremely slow logon issue. This eventually times out (after waiting for the Please wait... message) and then I can click to logon with the Administrator account box. Once I finally get logged in this way, I get an error message that says Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service.

Any ideas folks?

thanks,

G

One other thing I've noticed is that when I run the patched winlogon.exe, it seems to set the hostname to XuanTian WinRE. Not sure where it does this or why?

Thanks,

G

I don't toy with Win7PE, but could your delayed logon come from the fact, that your PE misses properly configured admin and guest accounts and has to first create them on boot?
