Error booting LiveXP and UBCD4Win in a multiboot dvd

Hellò! I'm very new of this forum, but that's my secondo topic in a few days

Well, I am creating a multiboot DVD for rescuing use.
I have started from Parted Magic and after I moved on, adapting every distro to the isolinux booting system. After every adaption I tried pratically to boot each job with UltraIso and VirtualBox.
Today I have finally ended the entire DVD. So, I have created something like a "beta" of all the distros just to perform some tests and...surprise: my two lives xp (winbuilder and ubcd4w) dont work!
You can say: "it happens".
Right. The error is "setupdd.sys could not be loaded", but it is not this one the amusing fact. It is this: if I create a smaller iso (with only the folder I need for the distro I am testing), well, the two lives xp work like a charm! On the contrary, it gaves me that error with all the distros togheter!
Summary: the two live xp work only if I dont put too many folder in UltraIso.

I think all the problem is about filename standardas and related stuff, but I am not sure.
I use the ISO9660, RocketRigde and Joliet.
In general, I use isolinux to manage all the distros of the dvd. For some, I use grub4dos - so I need RR because if I dont use it I cannot boot grub from isolinux.
Where am I wrong?

Basically using ULTRAISO (or any other ISO editing utility).

You are most probably fighting against some limits in the actual bootloader (SETUPLDR.BIN or by some other "early booting needed" files), read about order of files on the CD/DVD filesystem and pesort.txt:

Probably you can get away with it by renaming some of the "other" things with "ZZ" or the like.

Well, I can use anything that create an iso with a ISO9660/JOLIET/RockRigde filesystem. Any advice? Mkisfofs can do that?

Well, found something. I'm not sure, but I think all the problem is related with the folder "" x86_Microsoft.Tools.VisualCPlusPlus.Runtime-Libraries.Resources_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_it-IT_69d9af9 "" in the UBCW (for UBCD4W) directory. It overflows the file/folder-name limitation (31 characters)...

I'm wondering why all this problem does not come up when I create an iso with just a few folder. And why, when it comes up, it affects both the winbuilder LiveXP and the UBCD4win. And why such a long foldername for a folder containing just 1 file! I think here comes up just my lack of knowledge, so..keep on reading around.

Solved.
Reading around I've managed to get around the problem using a modified version of Mkisofs, from "cdrtools-2.01-bootcd.ru-w32", and using RockRidge with iso level 4.
It works like a charm and the other distro are working smoothier too

Yes, file system ISO9660:1999 and Rock Ridge without permissions is prefered at a multi boot DVD.
Joliet does limit file name length at a PE.

The missing setupdd.sys may be another reason.

Which ISO image file size do you get?

Which multi boot parts do you add to DVD?

Which folder and files does exist at DVD root?

You may use mkisofs version from LiveXP or UBCD4Win too.
UBCD4Win does create a sorted ISO image. Use this a as a sort example.

In addition official mkisofs version ignore case a sort nowadays too.

Well, I thought the setupdd.sys error was related to the filenames matter. Or even better: it was the UltraIso program...
However, now it's all working perfectly with a modified version of mkisofs, as I said in my previous post.

Anyway, in order to prevent future problems.. I fulfilled an ideal dvd with as more distros as I could. Obviously, I mean distros useful for managing a computer that is out-of-order. Now I am at the end - with 4,32 gigabytes.
Well, I inserted: Parted Magic, RIPlinux, SystemRescueCD, Trinity Rescue Kit, BackTrack 4, UltimateBootCD, Kaspersky Rescue Disk, Avira AntiVir Rescue System, Clonezilla, PING, DSL, Puppy linux, SlaX and other stuff like memtest, fixNTLDR, superGrub...
Talking bout windows xp live version, I inserted Hiren's Boot CD, winbuilder LiveXP, Ultimate Boot CD 4 windows.

In the root of my multiboot dvd, these folders (25) and files (8): <antivir> <avira> <avupdate> <BCDW> <boot> <bt4> <clzi> <CMDC> <dsl> <Etc> <HBCD> <I386> <kav> <LXPS> <ping> <pmagic> <Programmi> <PROGRAMS> <puppy> <rescue> <rip> <slax> <srcd> <trk3> <ubcd> BOOTFLAG WIN51IP BOOTFONT.BIN BOOTSECT.BIN LXP1.bin LXP2.bin ModelRam.exe WIN51IP.SP3
