Total n00b here. :ranting2:

I am not a computer techie but I like to geek out too! Just so you know, the most advanced thing I've done is slipstream SP2 onto my WinXP disk, and that was fun! :whistling:

I have tried and tried to build this and keep getting various errors. Right now the error I am getting is when trying to download Avira. I saved the log and will attach it if possible.

HP laptop
Vista Home Premium 32-bit
3gb RAM
BitDefender AV/firewall
winbuilder078SP6 + vistaPE-CAPI

I didn't get Vista disks so I installed WAIK v1.1 I believe, MS doesn't seem to name the file with the same version numbers you use (6001.18000.080118-1840-kb3aikl_en).

I set BitDefender to "game mode" since it kept finding and deleting a file it determined was a trojan: MapNetworkDrive.exe
It still finds it and now moves it to quarantine instead of deleting it.

Second problem now is while getting Avira. I don't understand what the problem is.

"(Avira.script) WebGetIfNotExist - [http://dl1.avgate.ne..._winu_en_h.zip] to directory: [%BaseDir%\Temp\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\antivir.zip] Socket Error # 10060 Connection timed out."

[Failed] WebGetIfNotExist - [http://dl1.avgate.ne..._winu_en_h.zip] to directory: [%BaseDir%\Temp\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\antivir.zip] Socket Error # 10060 Connection timed out.
[Warning] Halt
Run - Processed section [Download] in file: [%BaseDir%\Projects\VistaPE-CAPI\Apps\Security\AntiVirus\Avira.script]

Oh, and I went into my Admin account and still did the "run as" to see if that worked but no, that's where I ended up with the above problem.

Also, I would like to add DriveImage to the boot disk but have absolutely no idea how to do it. I downloaded the cab files (whatever those are) that can be used with BartPE builder so I don't know if I need those with this or not. And Firefox too, except I think Opera is on there already, if so that's fine.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Hi... I tried and now I got a new error! :whistling:
Well, I didn't turn off BitDefender, just put it in "game" mode, since winbuilder accesses the internet.

[Failed] (xCHM.script) FileCopy - Failed to copy [%BaseDir%\Temp\VistaPE-CAPI\InstallWimSrc\Windows\System32\icrav03.rat] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\VistaPE-CAPI\Windows\System32\icrav03.rat]: The system cannot find the path specified.

Also, I just happened to notice some warnings about files not being able to be copied so I checked the log and found these:

[Warning] (PENetCfg) Request Windows Vista DVD...
[Warning] (File Sharing) Request Windows Vista DVD...
[Warning] (Windows Vista Recovery Environment) Requires Windows Vista / WIndows 7 / Server2008 install files or DVD...

[Warning] (Common_Api.script) !!! Can not copy COMCTL32.DLL file!!!

[Warning] (Common_Api.script) !!! Can not copy MSCTFIME.IME file!!!
[Warning] (Common_Api.script) !!! Can not copy APPHELP.DLL file!!!

[Warning] (Common_Api.script) !!! Can not copy netui0.dll file!!!
[Warning] (Common_Api.script) !!! Can not copy netui1.dll file!!!

Now I had pointed it to my WAIK folder since I don't have the DVDs. Do I also need to deselect certain items before building? Could that be why I'm getting those "cannot copy" messages?

And you said you do not have a full Vista DVD?

And your trying to build from WAIK only?

It has been awhile since i used Vistape and i do not think you can build from just WAIK

find,, borrow, a full Vista version and just copy all files to a folder on C:

You can try deselecting all scripts that ask for Vista DVD BUT not all scripts will warn you, and i think most scripts need some Vista Source files
so after desecting most script theres is not much left.

find a Vista DVD and ask to just copy files,,

From what I've gathered you can build without the Vista DVD but you won't get a few things, what those things are I don't know.

Anyway, I just tried something else. I was trying to do a "complete" build before so I just tried doing the "recommended" build and that worked. It got through the Avira step no problem. I still got a lot of "can not copy file" messages, more than before. Not sure if it matters...

I'm also wondering what I'm missing out on by not having the complete version. probably a bunch of stuff I don't need or know how to use. :whistling:

It works. Now, is there somewhere I can learn how to add DriveImage?

I still got a lot of "can not copy file" messages, more than before.

If these messages exists for apps scripts, than do not worry. Just check the applications to see if they work properly.

Hmm, :whistling: you do seem like having a crooked sense of humour.

If one of the most boring thing invented by human kind seemd fun to you, be aware :ranting2: that using Winbuilder (that can be really fun sometimes) will have you die from laughter:

I wouldn't know. :ranting2: I'll have to try them out later. The disk does boot so that's good.

Is it normal to have all these errors? I thought that once you had everything in place and ran winbuilder it should have worked smoother than this. Not that I'm complaining, just wondering if I am messing this up some how.

Here's what's in the log:

Hah! I never knew you could die from laughing... I did pass out a couple times while slipstreaming, perhaps I was very lucky it wasn't just a tiny bit more fun. Phew! :whistling: :ranting2:

So I was looking at the tutorials and didn't find anything that tells how to add apps to a build. I would love to add DriveImage or SelfImage (or both!) unless there is another drive imager I can/should use. Any chance someone can point me in the right direction?

Here's what's in the log:

go up in the log to see which apps these warnings belong to and check if apps works on your emulator (which I believe all will be working).

DriveImage or SelfImage (or both!).

http://livexp.boot-l...elfImage.script
http://livexp.boot-l...ImageXML.script

check
apps script section
http://www.boot-land...hp?showforum=65
and some google-kungfu to get some personal collections flying around
and also check other (preferbably active) scripts in projects. LiveXP apps and VistaPE-Capi apps scripts supports eachother and other active (and updated) projects.

First find a script,, there is many
winbuilder\ Apps Scripts (Subforums)
Section,,, or
There is even a downloads place at top of screen

Most scripts will be added to
\Projects\Vista-CAPI\Apps (you will see folders there pick one)

Good Luck

Thank you Lancelot and PaPeuser! Thanks to your help I got the apps I wanted to add in there. :ranting2:
Of course both the drive image apps got the "can not copy file" error. :worship:

I'll test it out in a minute, after I put henna in my hair, then I'll have 35 minutes to play. :whistling:

These are the apps that got errors:
HDTune
DriveImage
SelfImage
WindowsGate
RegShot

Now wouldn't other people have gotten these same errors or could it have something to do with my WAIK? I don't know where it wants to get the files from so...

The main reason I want to get this working is to have the drive image apps so that I can restore a back up image when need be. If I put VistaPE on a USB drive can I "install" DriveImage or SelfImage and use it if it doesn't work on the live disk?

Also, I think MapNetworkDrive.exe is still getting quarantined/deleted as a trojan. I found a post that said something about a compressed exe and said to uncompress map.7z, get the exe out then put it back somewhere... oh, here it is:

so just do following:

1: unpack map.7z
2: uncompress MapNetworkDrive.exe (i used uniExtract)
3: making a new map.7z
4: integrate into the script

Or just ignore the Message wink.gif

Regards

Steel

Anyway, I couldn't find map.7z anywhere in my build folder... Do I need this app to access a NAS drive? I'll be able to access external drives without this working, right? From what I can find and understand this seems to be for assigning letters to a shared folder on a different computer.... ?

Thanks again! Off to put plum color in my hair now. :whistling:
Sorry, no pics so please don't beg.

Of course both the drive image apps got the "can not copy file" error. :ranting2:

as i wrote before, when this happens for the apps section scripts, ignore the error and check your builded pe (inside your virtual software) and check to see if these applications ( In your case, HDTune, DriveImage, SelfImage, WindowsGate, RegShot) works properly.

The reason behind these errors is, these application scripts supports both PE1 (example LiveXP) and PE2 (example: VistaPE-CAPI) with sometimes different dependency files.
The depency files arranged in one script sometimes does not fit the source of another, and project administrators or script authors mostly makes these scripts with the only project they mostly test with. My experience shows in most cases (%95) this does not cause error for the application on the builded PE. just check the application list you provided and I feel all will work.
Another reason is, when you use waik as source, some dependency files of the specific application will be missing giving warnings on log. As usual just check in your virtual
There should me more deep explanation, but I am not that much deep about this subject and I hope the none-deep summary above will help you.

It is very time consuming for anyone to check scripts with multi projects by using different sources. Besides this is mostly not critically needed, as you see user can make an easy check for the applications that gives warning on log :worship: .

Lancelot types faster than me,, :ranting2: :whistling:

PaPeuser knows PE2 and PE3 better than me  :whistling:.

Most everything I know is by trial and error
if I crash, i say OOPs, and I dont do that again

Putapunk - will just have to see what will work with WAIK and what wont, or find a Install Vista CD

(you had me laughing it was not easy to post this)

Good Luck Putapunk ------plum.... :whistling: :whistling:

Me too. My whole life is known errors. But I'm still trying. ;)

But now on to what you really wanted to know...

UPDATE:

Okay, so the plum isn't that plummy actually. Judging by the color of the cap (that didn't get completely rinsed out) being a more vibrant purple hours later, I could have left it on my hair longer to get better results but I did do the recommended 45 minutes.

Also, this herbatint has been sitting around for a long time so the age of it may have skewed the results and my hair already had a burgundy color in it so the product should not be judged based on my results. Next new box will be a more pure experiment.

I have two applications left so I will try to leave it on longer next time. Will post results.
