Would this help?
I remember Jaclaz also mentioned this detail some time ago as he likes to keep track of all messages that he sends.

It would be better, if it was checked by default.Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder
The phpBB forum software saves the PMs that you send, by default (other forum software probably too).

But some googling is required since this is not a setting that can be defined in the admin control panel.
Would you or anyone else interested in this feature do some googling to see how this can be achieved?
Our forum software is IPB and version is the 2.3.x series.
A good site to find resources is http://invisionize.com

Nevertheless, I'll try to find this checkbox option by myself but it might take a few days until I finish some other tasks.
Maybe THE finder would be available to help us on this case?

This is all we can change:
But MedEvil has made a good point, this should be optional.
Will ask at invisionize if someone knows how to solve this.

120% agreement! It would be better, if it was checked by default.

(But as I see from the following posts: It seems to be difficult to implement)

I remember Jaclaz also mentioned this detail some time ago as he likes to keep track of all messages that he sends.
Just to clear the idea, it's more about the method (or philosophy ) than anything else.
I mean, if the "Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder" is NOT checked (by default or because you forgot checking it) you press the Send button and the message is gone "poof" FOREVER, NO WAY to retrieve it.
If the "Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder" IS checked (by default or because you remembered checking it) you press the Send button and the sent message is silently stored in your "Sent Items", where you can re-access it at will.
Once every week, month, or year, your choice, you just access the Sent Items folder and delete anything that is not anymore needed.
I find that "forcing" anything to the user is BAD.
But "forcing" anything that may provoke losing DATA, ANY kind of DATA, is WORSE.

The correct sentence would be:But "forcing" anything that may provoke losing DATA, ANY kind of DATA, is WORSE.
"Forcing" anything that may provoke losing important DATA is bad. But destroying useless, pointless, trifle is a public service!

"Forcing" anything that may provoke losing important DATA is bad. But destroying useless, pointless, trifle is a public service!
And for me personally, data I sent, are important.

The fact that you use PM's to send mostly or exclusively "useless, pointless, trifle" data, does not necessarily mean that the rest of the world may not use PM's to send "useful, meaningful, important" DATA.
Or are you suggesting that we implement a software to check for meaningfulness/usefulness/intelligence of contents of PM and automagically delete whatever doesn't make any sense?

Should I put you onto my 'PM ignore' list? What i send may be important to the other person, but definitly not for me.
It is not nice if you send me topics which are not important for you.
(Things important

So when you ask me a question, you need to archive it? For what?Should I put you onto my 'PM ignore' list?
Maybe the answer is worth keeping for later use, but the question?
And in this example, neighter your question nor my answer to it is worth keeping, for me. When i know the answer now, i will also know it tomorrow and not need to search for it in my PM archive!

I answer a PM of yours with "Consider what you wrote. That looks like a message of a fool"
You feel confrontated and go to an attourney of law 'He said that I'm a fool'
No chance for me to present the original.
Peter
Just a sample. You know that I'm a fool, and I know that you are a fool!
