Injecting XP Serial to related file in XP CD
(Unattended XP Tips)

HI

There are several ways to setup xp without being asked for SN (The
most used way is using winnt.sif).

Today i want to tell you another way that i think is the best way.

In this tutorial you will need:
1.Resource hacker
2.Modifype.exe (Download from attachment of my another tutor below)

1)_ From your XP CD copy files bellow to desktop:

WINNT32A.DLL
WINNT32A.DL_
WINNT32U.DLL
WINNT32U.DL_

Note: May be you do not have 2nd and 4th files of above ,it is not important.

2)_ Move WINNT32A.DLL to C:\ ,If you do not have this file,extract
WINNT32A.DL_ (by winrar) to C:\.

3)_ Open WINNT32A.DLL by resource hacker , extand Dialog section and
open folder 144 in left panel, you will see a Dialog window (see
Section A from pic_1 in attachment).This dialog is the dialog that setup
process shows you and you should fill serial number on it.

4)_You see 5 sections in Dialog box,that we should fill each of them by 5
Charactor of serial number. For doing this Click at 1st section (see B in
pic_1 in attachment),By clicking at section 1 you will see that a red
mark (red *) is displayed in right panel of reshack as you can see in picture
by red color i made ,In thi example you are in line bellow:

* CONTROL "",1030,..............

5)_ Now type first 5 charactor of XP serial number between marks "" that you
saw above,for example type XXXXX as picture C in attachment.

Do the same thing for other 4 sections too.

6)_ Now click on Compile script button in up side of reshack(see D from
attachment).

7)_ Untill this time you have modified On section of WINNT32A.DLL.Do the same
process for folders 145 and 158 in left panel of reshack too.
Now save it (as i told in C:\ for this example).

8)_ Do exactly the same process (from 2 trough 6) for file WINNT32U.DLL too and
save it in C:\ .

Untill now the process of modifing is completly finished,But there is one
important note over here:
Windows XP setup process,checks each files befor using or copying it,and
it will not accept modified files, so if we place these modified files
inside XP CD,during setup it will give error and setup will not continue.

So what should do for our modified files to be accepted during setup?

For this purpose do as bellow:
I supose that
1. you have downloaded "Modifype.exe" and have placed that inside your system32 directory

2.you have placed files WINNT32A.DLL and WINNT32U.DLL in c:\

Now go to command prompt and type:
modifype WINNT32A.DLL -c
press enter and after few sec type:
modifype WINNT32U.DLL -c
press enter
by these commands modified files will be OK to use in xp CD , but we should run
commands bellow too for compressing them

makecab WINNT32A.DLL

makecab WINNT32U.DLL

by these commands files WINNT32A.DL_ and WINNT32U.DL_ will be created in address:
Documents and Settings\Administrator\

of course if the user name is for example xxxx, the fill will be produced in:
Documents and Settings\xxxx\

Now you can chang these 4 files by the ones inside you I386 directory of XP CD
and burn CD.During setup process there willbe no need to enter serial number.

Note :When you use winnt.sif ,if you setup windows by booting from CD it will not
ask for serial number,but if you begin to setup inside windows it will ask for it,

By the way i talked about you will never be asked for serial.

I saw your tutor and i would like to tell that:

Yes ,there are a lot of programs to do a lot of things,If we do every thing by programs we will never
succed in our life.
programs are very good,and We like all programmers,But i think at this site (Boot Land),one of ideas
is to make members to work,learn and do your self.!!!
when we learn to do our self,we will get mor power to make more powerfull and better programs.

in your tutorial you are talking just about how to use nlite,and I think nlite is too easy that there is no
need for such tutors.

if you want to do some thing,at least write tutors that user can understand some things.
when i wrote this tutorial i was sure that readers will learn that and also will get idea to do more!!!

Hi all ,

Reading the quote could give the impression that a inappropriate statement has been made but in translations the meaning can come across as a bit blunt & the real meaning is lost, even the way sentences in languages can differ. Case in point, the Welsh say things in reverse order to english which can sometimes cause confusion but I agree with Jaclaz sensitivity is sometimes called for.

To be honest, I think all the Tutorials are very good, I like the idea of performing an installation of XP into "classic mode or auto insertion of XP serial info", I like Nlite as a program but also appreciate alternative ways of doing things, without installing additional programs both ways have their merits.

In another post that benxhi compiled I suggested that both Shirin & benxhi cross reference or cross link their tutorials (& I believe benxhi has already done so) so that the user gets the benefit of both methods & I think the authors of the respective tutorials will probably get greater exposure & hits or enquiries.
Our Motive?
We are afterall writing these tutorials with the starter or beginner in mind so let them (& indirectly the Developers) be the beneficaries of our work! We all will make mistakes from time to time & constructive crticism for me is always welcome & appreciated! Variety is the spice of life & there is always one way of undertaking a task, how we achieve that is a matter of choice!
Also we could amend or strike that line if it still causes concern? Anyway "Great Work Everyone"

No problem Shirin, I'm sure your appologies are accepted, you do not need to worry as much as me! I am guilty of a worse crime, Yesterday I went and deleted one of Nuno's posts by accident not a very clever thing to do at all!

Anyway as a "new" moderator I can do one of two things, leave things alone at this point, draw a line under it, in a sense or
carry out some basic housekeeping and delete the bits that have breached the "rules"?

I will be guided by what everyone thinks & what makes everyone happy to bring about closure so that we can move on!

Guys, anyone here ever find a windows xp backup and restore process that is automated? Often times I get friends who lose there xp CD and need an XP rebuild. I would like to have an automate XP install process that could use my XP CD for the install, but perform a backup of their activaion before the install and in the end restore their activation.

Anythoughts on that?

I found i also had to add the CD key to SYSSETUP.DL_ @ 58, 59, 208 .

Also injecting the key this way you can use the cd for a repair install

that you can't do with winnt.sif.
