UBCD4Win and VistaPE on USB

I have been googling for hours without any luck. I have browsed the forums but cannot find a working solution for NTFS, VistaPE, & UBCD4Win.

I have tried the following inside of the menu.lst
1) chainloader /UBCD4Win/minint/NTLDR after renaming setupldr to NTLDR
2) chainloader /UBCD4Win/NTLDR after copying NTLDR up on directory
3 & 4) previous commands after using find set--root /UBCD4Win/...
5) chainloader /UBCD4Win/SETUPLDR.BIN
6) chainloader /UBCD4Win/minint/SETUPLDR.BIN
7 & 8) previous commands after using find set--root /UBCD4Win/...

I will try renaming UBCD4Win to UBCD (4 character structure to try to fix the problem later after my group meeting)

Which folders are conflicting?

It's not a safe thing but it is still possible to work nevertheless.

Also recommend taking a look on BCDW 2.x because it allows to multi boot any XP PE without need for Hex Edit setupldr.bin or such.

I built my VistaPE to run all from RAM so it doesn't even have a "Programs" folder (everything is in boot.wim). I don't know what you have in your VistaPE build, but it may be an option to consider.

I have quite a few programs but I have not tried this yet--when I change the layout to include portable applications I might run the core from ram. After looking closer mixing the program folders together should not be a problem--don't know what I was thinking yesterday. lol.

SETUPLDR.BIN looks for files in a directory DIRECTLY under ROOT of the drive.
The name of this directory is hardcoded as /I386 on CD and as /minint on HD.

Hexediting SEUPLDR.BIN it is possible to edit the above, but structures like:
/UBCD4WIN/minint/
/UBCD/minint/

WON'T WORK.

/UBCD
or
/UB4W
should, if hexediting has been done correctly.

MAYBE, only MAYBE, something like:
/UB/W
or
/U/4W
could work , but AFAIK noone ever tested it.

Thanks, I will probably try these this this weekend when I get a bit of free time. Should be interesting to see if that will work--otherwise I will just stick to minint. Will also have to make sure the UBCD4Win does not look for programs on root. As many years as I have used it, I have never created my own scripts or tried to understand it like with VistaPE.
