Cannot find grldr in all drives

Cannot find grldr in all drives. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

I saw this error for the first time today. I am using GRUB4DOS 0.4.6a 2015-05-08. This is my computer in question (when it worked) You can see grub version if you pause it at exactly 24 seconds.

The error occured after I ran a check disk on the NTFS partition from OSX, Immediately I thought somehow my partition had wiped the grldr file so booted into PE environment command line and I copied it back to the partition and for safe measure re ran grubinst.exe --no-backup-mbr --skip-mbr-test -t=0 -v (hd0). But I could see the partition there, the files were untouched and a reboot continued to have the problem.

The issue persists, even though the grub files are sitting there and the MBR is obviously still grub4dos, and I can't see why this is the case?

I could just toast the whole thing and start again, but I would like to resolve it incase of future issues.

Backup the volume.

Run "real" chkdsk (from a Windows NT system) on it.

You are the second person in the latest few days to report an issue connected with using the check disk on OSX on a NTFS volume.

JFYI, it is not the smartest thing to do, as NTFS is NOT fully documented and any non-MS implementation comes out of either "reverse engineering" or "educated guesses", and it is well possible that some "edge cases" are improperly implemented n third party tools.

This:

is "suspect", on which partition/volume is the actual grldr file?

Yes I am always a bit weary of NTFS implementations from OSX, I have had issues with that in the past and since used paragon NTFS, which has not let me down yet (maybe today it did!)

If you watch the video, you might be able to glean the partition layout. Its only 3 minutes if you can spare that!

After running chkdsk /f/x on the partition as suggested, it came up with

CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap.

Windows has made corrections to the file system.

Obviously now grub4dos is working again!

Sorry I feel foolish for not trying it first! That was the obvious step to take..
