Not sure where to post: Newest version of Symantec Ghost 12

The newest version of Symantec Ghost 12.X supports UEFI / GPT finally! We've been worried about this as we start to move more and more to 64 bit and UEFI. 

 

You must get the entire Solution Suite v3 and install if somewhere, then get the Ghost32.exe. Ghost64.exe etc. files out of the created boot media's WIM file.  There is probably an easier way to do it but this was it for me.  We never have used the Ghostcast server, we just write to network shares or attahed USB drives.

 

I've simply taken my tried and true ghost script and plunked the new Ghost files in it as attachments and it works fine.

Don't post them *anywhere*. Symantec's products are shit. There are far better imaging solutions out there. Their antivirus products are way too heavy-handed and over-vigilant. Symantec is kinda like Microsoft, they're famous enough that they dont really need people to talk about their offerings, at least as far as marketing is concerned.

...with an exception that confirms the general rule which is actually GHOST. (though of course other imaging solution do exist, not that many are "far better")

Try downloading Symantec_Ghost_Standard_Tools.msi (you'll have to register on the Symantec site to obtain the link) and extract the required files using 7-zip.

Not sure if these are full versions or crippled trial versions.

I'm a fan of Ghost32.exe - a standalone imaging program with good compression and no dependencies that works well in WinPE. And Ghost was originally developed by Binary Research - not Symantec.

Yes, we are too and have a whole library of Ghost images, hence the need to stick with it. With UEFI / GPT systems becoming more prevalent I was glad to see it updated to cover them.  The Ghost binary is fantastic, simple, fast, small and like you say works well in PE.  The rest of the Solution Suite is a hot mess, written poorly and way, way to massive for anyone but a super large company.  

 

I have used Ghost when it was a Binary Research product back in the old DOS days.  When PE started to be viable (Good old BartPE anyone?) I was glad when Ghost32 became available.

 

I have to agree with AnonVendetta's comment on everything else Symantec though.  We use SEP and it is shitty as hell.  I hate it. I also do a lot with Backup Exec and it's certainly software I love to hate.

Ghost has been always very reliable for MBR partitioned disks, It is good to know about this v12.xx supports UEFI / GPT.

 

I read somewhere a comment from a Ghost fan about new version 12.x is slower than previous versions, Can anybody confirm that?, If so How much % slower?
