Hide boot area

Hello.

How can i make a hide boot are with 8mb, to put grldr and menu.lst?

Hi Cyrowll,

Create one first 8mb partition (fat16 since < 32mb), then a second xxx mb partition (ntfs for example).

Then edit the master boot record and change the partition #1 type from 01h (fat16) to 11h (hidden fat 16).

Reboot or update disk properties and you are set.

Not sure GR4DOS can deal with a hidden partition thus.

humm ok, sounds a little boring, i'm thinking, if there is a program to do that ...sorry, you think i´a m lazy person but this not the case...would be easier to see how it would look and work too.

You mean a right click / hide partition?
In clonedisk the only you have to do is to edit one field and apply... Thats 2 click of a mouse.

Grub4dos can read ext2 while windows can't, so a small ext2 or ext3 partition might be more hidden, depending who you're hiding it from.

Correct but I am wondering : it could be that the windows explorer will still show a logical drive "unformatted" then ?

I have added an option to make it easy :

-choose your disk

-open the partition editor

-choose your partition

-change partition type

See screenshot. I would change 0x7 to 0x17 (23 in decimal).

Add 16 (in decimal) or 0x10 (in hexa) to hide/unhide a partition.

Hiding partitions applies only to the following partition types: 0x01, 0x04, 0x06, 0x07, 0x0B, 0x0C and 0x0E.

that´s nice option... I researched and found this FbinstTool, this make boot area with no problem and you see your files like normal partition. erwan.l your program its great and easy but this is what a wont, no offence at all... you  developer make a great job, whit no cost and for free, and we love your job. withdout you, we are mothing... Thanks you erwan.l for you help and for you job, and don´t stop to do what you do best,
