While I understand that multipe is making some strides when it comes to a GUI for building win8pe, I was wondering if there are any tutorials out at the moment to do it manually using the win8 ADK. I'm fairly competent at manually manipulating a win7pe WIM file, but I have tried several times to put explorer into the win8pe that comes with the ADK without success.

I understand some people on this forum have it working, but I don't see any explanation on how it is done. Is anybody who has it working manually willing to provide instructions (or have a link to a place that has instructions)?

The first option, is of course, not really feasible. The VHD option has a ton of drawbacks (does not load into RAM, much larger filesize, requires reinstallation of drivers and multiple reboots every computer it gets moved to, can't be ran from read-only media). To give you an idea, I have created a hiren-like bootdisc with most of my bootable environments and tools running from it (like a lot of us do I think). It's got a fully functional win7PE environment that runs from it, but that environment does not have some things that I'd like in a windows PE environment (native USB 3.0 support, for example).

The second option looks like an ongoing thing, but that is also them trying to get the win8 shell running. A more acceptable solution might be using the win7 explorer shell replacement (http://www.msfn.org/...-for-windows-8/) and putting in the appropriate explorer.exe into the windows folder. I'll give that a shot tomorrow and see how it goes.

Well, personally I cannot see one reason in the world why one would actually want/need explorer.exe as shell or as file manager, giving the number of far better alternatives to it, but the second link was exactly to point you how in the current "state of the art" the Windows 7 Explorer can be used in 8 (see reference in post #3 of the given thread), though it still has to be found how exactly to add it to a WinPE 4.0.

Or with other words, there's no tutorial for creating a WIn8PE with explorer, cause if there were, PSC had used it to get explorer working in multiPE.

Sounds logical, doesn't it?
