I found this site that claims to offer 1000 TB for free. However, the upload is not limited, the download is limited to 2GB/day.
Link: http://www.petandrive.com
Other services like this are:
ADrive
Link: http://www.adrive.com
Microsoft SkyDrive 25 GB
Link: https://skydrive.live.com
Dropbox 2gb free up to 8gb
Link: http://www.dropbox.com
And there are other services across the Internet.
How is this possible? Is this really true?
And what services are you using ?

And the help page is full of typos, that alone is always a reason to suspect their claims.
Last but not least, I would suspect from the downloader tool, next thing you note and your machine is already working for a massive bot net.
I hope to be wrong, however one does get a 5th sense for these web marvels that just does not like their service fof some reason.

and compare the info in there with the one on the site, like:

23. Contact Information
Except as explicitly noted on this site, the services available through this site are offered by PetanDrive located at USA. Our telephone number is +972 544474309. If you notice that any user is violating these Terms of Use, please contact us at agent@petandrive.com.
Last time I checked +972 is the international dial code for Israel (which is not AFAIK/AFAICR "located at USA")
The guy running it is seemingly called rechavia elias, and he also owns dunewars.org:
http://whois.domaint...om/dunewars.org
(defiitely IL based)
The IP actually comes from the US, though:

WTF[1] rating: 100 (onehundred)
Wonko
[1] WTF can be interpreted both as you already did or as "Wonko's Treacherous Factor", a completely arbitrary scale that can give you an idea on how much Wonko (the Sane) would NOT trust it in a range between 0 and 100, where 0 represents "all fine and dandy" and 100 represents "have not a long enough stick to not touch it with"

But for most uploading such huge files is out of limits anyway, so why worry about things that don't reflect on you?

The service is provided "as is" and they don't give you any (meaning "any") guarantee of any kind.
Like many similar services, you don't actuall have any right, of any kind.
The service can be terminated any time, so if you have some files you don't care anything about, why not uploading them?
As long as you don't really *need* to retrieve them, or you don't really *need* to retrieve them in a few weeks/months time, the most you can lose is your DATA.
How it is done is in FAQ #1:

1000 TB? how is this possible?!?! and for free?!
We have seen many posts on different forums claiming that "it is not possible", But it IS possible, and we do it, so we would like to explain how.
First of all, we are dealing with virtual storage and we wrote the filesystem for it. Files will be located on your virtual hard drive and it will look like one physical hard drive, but on our servers they are spread on many many hard drives in RAID arrays on different servers.
Each request for any file is being redirected by our servers, so actuality, files inside one of your folders in the virtual hard drive can be on different servers!
Secondly our servers are smart enough to make only one copy for every file, yet you can edit and change files that you receive from others without affecting other users.
Thirdly all other hosting companies offer unlimited storage, is this possible?
So how do we make money? From premium users of course, like any other hosting company...
BTW they have a Forum:

(unfortunately it is seemingly offline at the moment )

They need to login into phpmyadmin and repair the phpbb_sessions table.
otherwise IPB and our server using crontab to do that operation automatically

Well, the whole point in this particular case is not IMHO "how to complain if it doesn't work", it is about to not even thinking of relying on them (I mean if you think your files have some value).
Well, EBay is an interesting example of a California based international webstores host - and millions all over the world rely on their service. On the other hand, you're right, there is no free lunch that guarantees no salmonella.

I downloaded 8TB of files from fileserve/wupload to my petandrive virtual drive, but now I can't access it... :-(
At least I managed to download 3TB to my pc and watch many videos for only 4$ LOL
I wonder how they built this virtual hard drive, worked pretty fast for me (for downloading, uploading didn't worked so well) with very nice streaming and seeking, sometimes it looked like the drive is really local...
But I really think that they made a lot of mistakes in this site, they had a lot of potential, a lot of options but really bad support.
Anyway I hope that it's just temporary down time...
