Integrating MassStorage using DPs_BASE.exe

Hi folks,

I managed to install XP via USB a couple of years ago after huge help from wimb and jaclaz. Now the machine is running like a bag of nails and I want to do the same.

My steps would be to copy my i386 folder from the setup disc to my hard drive, use Nlite to integrate SP3 (though I cant do this now, says the file is corrupt - so I will install and update afterwards). Then use DPs_BASE.exe to integrate DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1108.7z.

I have DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1108.7z in the Driverpacks folder, and DPs_BASE.exe starts to add the pack for me, but it only takes around 1.5 minutes, (last time it took 30 minutes and worked fine). This (I think) is my problem.

When I then use USB_MultiBoot_10 to build the installation, I get the following... and think that the driverpack hasn't "unpacked" itself properly, I.e. DPs_BASE.exe has only "added the file", not integrated it into my XP target directory.



Can anybody please give me a good guide as to why the driverpack might not be getting unpacked properly?

There is not one need in the world to use nlite to integrate SP3, you can integrate it directly (of course BOTH the "source" and the SP3 must NOT be corrupted, if this is what you are having).

Did you use method 1 or Method 2 with driverspack?

How big is the driverpack you used?
How big was the source BEFORE applying the Driverpack?
How big it is AFTER?

Since what you actually want to do is to install XP via USB, and specifically through Wimb's application, why don't you ask for help on its support forum?

BTW, and JFYI, different methods/programs have been developed in the meantime, maybe you will want to try one of these, if USB_multiboot.cmd - for any reason - is giving problems with your setup, programs also to be found here:

You are not trying to run nlite again or an already nlited source, right?

Cheers Wonko, and "Oops..." not a good start. Is the answer "2"? At least you see I was trying some 'self help reading' first..
I'll repost in the right place.

BTW, the source was 469Mb before, DP is 7.5Mb and (after DPs_BASE.exe has finshed) the source becomes 475Mb. So yep, file added - but not unpacked.

I use method 2, following the tutorial on driverpacks.net to the letter (or so I thought). But still, the 30 minute unpacking process that I remember doesn't happen, (just a 1.5 minute 'something or other'). I'll try post the same on msfn, thanks anyway.
