Hi Wonko!

Because I'm currently trying to become familar with the new forum's behaviour (and trying to help by reporting all found issues), IMO it is very disturbing to have to read jokes like you currently are posting.

Write all your excellent ideas onto a paper, and remember them in few days, when the forum's software is (rather?) stable.

Thanks

Peter

You don't "have to" read anything.
You are FREE (as in freedom) to NOT read anything I post.
You are FREE (as in freedom) to express your opinions on what you read.
You are NOT FREE (as in Freedom) to tell me what I should do (as this would limit my freedom):

Write all your excellent ideas onto a paper, and remember them in few days, when the forum's software is (rather?) stable.

Following your line of thought, I would be allowed to post :stretcher::
Peter, LEAVE the board, NOW! And get back to the board once the the forum's software will be (rather?) stable. ;)

Now that wouldn't be nice, wouldn't it? :whistling:

 Love the professional reboot tools.

And you haven't yet seen anything about the Software tools, examples:
http://www.ashkon.com/rebootex.html
eco-friendly too :fine: , look at how much you could save (after having given them a mere $24.95):
http://www.ashkon.com/rxsavings.html

For roughly the same money, you can also do it remotely:
http://www.href.com/rsu:1142986240

just think at the time saving, a customer calls you and from your smartphone or i-phone, you easily reboot his/her system! :yahoo:

I see new forum art forms are being born right on time. :fine:

And that's a good thing - new forum has a friendly new face, which still can be rebooted if it hangs on some new genre. :yahoo:

For 200% I disagree to friendly new face. But maybe that will change after the technical startup issues are solved.

No, its actually not bad (old problems apart). Its not important whether the Poster's Logo is on the right or left. Forums should differ, be easily identifiable. Not sure though, if posting series of YouTube clips is a good idea for Reboot.

The main problems I see for now:

- Appearance: front page is less informative and gives less access to forum posts than before (this is also true for other pages with Recent Topics listed);

- Content: forum lacks some orientation articles that would highlight and compare projects running and software offered in various sections. There are Tutorials, but no Overview Article in any section.

I'm sure, it'll gradually change. Its obvious the guys are trying, but it can't be expected overnight. Those with most experience in particular Tools should help to write overview & comparison articles.

That besides being absolutely foolish (I mean when we are talking on "generic", either "fun" or "NOT fun" videos completely unrelated to the technical issues the board should have as "main object"), is actually not that bad as long as these videos remain "confined" within their own threads/forums/sections/whatever.

What I personally see as a much worse change (which you so well introduced ;) ) is the new communication trend, talking of everything *else* in a completely unrelated thread instead of staying on topic in an appropriate thread.

The migration from technical board to chatroom or social gathering place is however an interesting switch, noone will ever be able anymore to find relevant information easily, but he/she will have a lot more fun reading completely unrelated things on any thread.

Speaking of threads, I need to replace a screw on my bike, and I cannot find one similar to the other ones.
What do you think, should I change all other screws (currently Philips) with the Allen ones I could find or just replace the missing one? :worship:

Would that look asymmetrical?
http://reboot.pro/10933/

I wonder if anyone has written a comparison between Philips and Allen screws and bolts, it would be an useful resource. :)

Hi Wonko,

I tend to enjoy your humor, unless it goes overboard, which happens quite often. Your problem (one of) seems to be you can't draw fine lines in some issues, resulting in numerous contradictions, fixing your old posts without Edit Date shown, and ongoing arguments with other members who actually tend to (almost) like you. See, you say I introduced something, and then refer to an old thread of yours that says the same thing about someone else. But its an enjoyable read anyway. Thanks for the link.

Again, you don't have to register multiple forum accounts to support yourself. Doesn't make sense, since I'd like to consider myself your (distant) friend, a helping hand, hence nothing to fight about. Just noted above you're inventing new genres of forum art, competitive to YouTube clips. And said, its a good sign of healthy ON TOPIC competition. ;)

See, the thing that disturbs me the most, is your (lack of) accomplishments record as a long term member. :angry7: Sure, if there is a small shortage (I mean, nothing to hide, but neither to show), you're quite capable to beef it up by writing a few Overview Articles comparing tools presented on this forum, and the scope of tasks & target user & OS & hardware category for each tool separately that would benefit the most from using it compare to other similar purpose tools.

Assuming, you're able of doing this (i.e. believing in your raising star), pls don't waste your time on small arguments and threads like this - especially since you tend to talk about THREAD VALUES. :( The last word should of course be yours.

Good  , and, as you may have expected it is:
NO.

Meaning that I won't do other people homework, nor do things because someone else tries to push me doing them.

Hadn't you noticed, this is exactly the essence of my previous reply to Peter (pscEx) a few posts above (and he is an old time friend).

By the way, speaking of posts, what do you think of these:

I have to build a new fence and it's actual height should be around 5", should I earth them for 1' 5" or 1' 7"?

Hey, its not other ppl homework. See, there is no tech book without Introduction. It can be written, but hardly published, and never sold. Haven't you read, the guys said to have not enough qualification for such things, less than adequate English skills. Nobody is pushing you, just calmly drawing your attention to some gaps, no-one can fill IMHO better than you (hope you like that one).

I wonder WHAT makes you think that I have such qualifications.

I am presuming you are talking of your request to tinybit here:
http://reboot.pro/13282/page__st__7

Maybe you should read this:
http://reboot.pro/12395/
and draw your own conclusions on the degree of familiarity I have with GRUB2 - and BTW my personal opinion on the way it was developed/published/documented/whatever.

Maybe things will change with the new grub24dos project, but that will be the future, right now I have NO need whatsoever (nor interest) in GRUB2, as I ALREADY have "better" tools to do what it can do - at least on the systems I use.

... no-one can fill IMHO better than you (hope you like that one).

Nice attempt at soothing me  , too bad it won't work :(.

Wait a minute...

You asked me about the fence, but didn't give a chance to address that important issue. Let me gather some thoughts...

Btw, speaking about Overview Articles, I meant a broader spectrum of those. To illustrate, each forum section would start with an Overview Article, i.e. a Survey of what tools are presented, and which tool is better suited to do what exactly, on what kind of hardware, and by what kind of user (i.e., mandatory MS Certificate Grade 2 Level 3 in Reboot techniques ). May be even looking from a historical prospective. Meaning not simply throwing links, but presenting a substantive yet brief material to get readers oriented around that section.

See, I figured out, if one is able to find suitable links for almost every question (i.e. a FINDER), he might know something about each subject linked, so its easy for him to compile such an introduction for each section. What do you think about my logic? :(

Not bad :(, though still very far from the Vulcan minimum standards I am used to.

The hypothesis that something may be easy for me (or actually easier for me than for someone else) does NOT imply that I will do it.

Let's say that you happen to meet a famous writer - obviously it would be easier for him to write a book than for most other people, but would you ask him to write a book for you?
And if yes, how high would you rate the probabilities he will fulfill your request?

Or, in a more pragmatical example, say that I find near my (old) garden fence a professional carpenter.

He obviously knows MUCH more than me about fence posts and how deep they should be in the ground, and definitely he can drive them MUCH better and faster, and straighter than I can.

Now, what would you think he would reply me should I tell him :
You do see how my garden fence is old, since it is so easy for you making fences and erecting posts, why don't you actually start making a new fence around my garden?

Actually, there were 2 hypotheses offered. OK, interesting part is, you gladly accepted that you know at least something about many Reboot things. So, we're a half way (a glass half-full) to the desired by travelers destination.

See, my logic goes a bit further your examples. Unless one is paid to participate in such forum, my rough assumption is, he does it for fan (a part of which is educating the public). Hence (assuming one is able - its a big advance credit), why not extend same skills to something more memorable (like ageless Rome Ruins) than a daily links doze? Its a good brain exercise for sure.

Am I progressing in my logic a bit?

Naah, what I try doing is to contribute to increase the interconnectedness of all things, an olistic view of the board and of the web, nothing can be contained properly in a single page/introduction, you might want to find a Wikipedia contributor to do the job you are trying me to do, he would be much better than me.

Am I progressing in my logic a bit?

Doubtfully so. You didn't introduce any new concept in your last post. We are still at the "why don't you do something I would like to see/have, that I am unable to do myself (or possibly too lazy as it would mean hard work for me) while it would be easy for you" approach.

May be you're right. I wrote a Tutorial just a few days into a particular task, because I seen the need for it.

You gave a link to your Thumb Formatting review that was written right after you accomplished something - formatted a Thumb properly.

May be there was nothing after that? Nothing accomplished - hence nothing to right home about? I mean, on this booting topic, not generalizing. Some guys write Tutorials to create referral points - obviously you don't need that. So, here we go - no motivation whatsoever. And you also say - no ability? Btw, ppl writing Wikipedia articles are all very different, and have a whole range of motifs to do that.

OK, lets forget about the whole thing, whatever the reasons. What you were talking about - Ctrl+Alt+Del ? That's valuable, go on pls, nobody will try to "fence" you out of topic. Disappointing though - in terms of not meeting quite lowered expectations.
