It's not convenient to customize the boot menu by editing the *.cfg file. Can you include a oot Menu Editor in SARDU?

Thank you.

Why you want to change something that works? SARDU is this. In the license it says that you should not change anything: the background etc.
If one doesn't accept these limits should not use SARDU.
User can edit the file extra.cfg. Why only few user they do this? Simple. Because in this case is the user who needs to know what to do. Not put the blame on me.

I do not intend to change the background, but I want to correct the name of PE on the Boot Menu, just their names. SARDU can't detect some ISO, so I have to change their names before creating the bootable USB drive. I want to correct them. It's not very convenient to do it manually.

I'm sorry. I don't know if correcting the names of the items on the boot menu breaks the license.

Then I must apologize because I have already changed the syslinux.cfg file on my usb-drive and also the isolinux.cfg file for my iso with TedNotepad.
(I removed “Menu tools” since I don’t need it)
Didn’t know it was illegal. Will try to change back…

Wait a minute.....

WHERE is the License? ;)

I would like to READ it BEFORE downloading the app.

Is the License the "copyng_SARDU" (which should be "copying_SARDU") in the Sardu2.zip ?

If it is there is NO such provision in it.

I don't know if this part contemplates this.

None is allowed to attempt to reverse engineer,

disassemble or decompile this Software.

All parts of this Software are copyright protected.

Btw I am getting tired of the fact that instead of being happy to have a FREE software as SARDU....

No. ;)

That provision is for disassembling or decompiling the software.

That is to prevent people to learn HOW you do things, NOT to prevent them have (and modify as they like) WHAT you do (the result of running your program).

There is NO legal (let alone enforceable) possible provision to prohibit editing a plain TEXT file.

Heck! ;) Even Microsoft allows modifications to BOOT.INI, more generally .ini files and to the BCD and to the Registry (even if the latter ones are not "plain text").

BTW, IF such provisions were enforceable, SARDU would be NOT compatible with any "Free" software license AND would void the GNU license of most of the tools you use "under the hood" in Sardu. ;)

Remember that all you are creating is a (nice ;) ) Isolinux/Syslinux .cfg file which users ARE allowed to modify when and as they wish or see fit.

Do not confuse "Free" (as in freedom) with "Free" or "Freeware" (as in "free beer").

Btw I am getting tired of the fact that instead of being happy to have a FREE software as SARDU....

That's another thing.

The world is full of people that like to take whatever is available, without even taking a few seconds to thank whomever is giving that to them and they are never happy with what they get (for free). ;)

But this is not the case, as I see it. ;)

An user pointed out what (according to him) would be a nice ADDITIONAL feature to SARDU.

This is usually called "feature request", and it is common that users ask developers to add something that they may have overlooked or didn't think about.

Obviously, you are perfectly free to NOT add the requested feature, and also SUGGEST to not modify the .cfg generated by SARDU, but definitely you CANNOT prohibit doing ANY edit/change to them.

@al-jo
What you did is perfectly legal and compatible with the SARDU license.
Everyone is free to change a Syslinux or Isolinux .cfg, NO MATTER which app originally generated it.

It's not this case..but...
many people only know how to make a change:

Made by their name
change the name of software

I just hate these things.

Sure, they are usually kids...:
...same kind of peeps that post once a week on MSFN wanting to change the setup screens of billboards of XP or (now) 7 install .... ;)

Teenage Mugger: [Dundee and Sue are approached by a black youth stepping out from the shadows, followed by some others] You got a light, buddy?
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee: Yeah, sure kid.
[reaches for lighter]
Teenage Mugger: [flicks open switchblade] And your wallet!
Sue Charlton: [guardedly] Mick, give him your wallet.
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee: [amused] What for?
Sue Charlton: [cautiously] He's got a knife.
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee: [chuckles] That's not a knife.
[he pulls out a large bowie knife]
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee: Now THAT's a knife.
[Dundee slashes the teen mugger's jacket and maintains eyeball to eyeball stare]
Teenage Mugger: Shit!
[he and his friends run off]
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee: [to Sue] Just some kids having fun. You all right?
Sue Charlton: [relieved] I'm always all right when I'm with you, Dundee.
