Hi everyone!

Finally got some time to download the WAIK from the microsoft site (826Mb) and it came as an .IMG file called vista_6000.16386.061101-2205-LRMAIK_EN.img, I've mounted this image using a virtual CD-ROM drive.

You can also rename this image file to extension .ISO and burn it into a DVD/RW for copying the files inside. I recommend doing things because some file unarchivers like winzip, winRAR and tugzip might be able to directly extract files, but these may not properly copy everything as supposed.

You can only install the "Windows AIK Setup" after installing MSXML 6.0, any particular reason for this also being needed?

So the WAIK was installed my Programs folder.

---------------------------------------------

Tried running the latest version of VistaPE project and and error is outputed with the explorer vista:

"File C:\Programs\Windows AIK\sources\install.wim not found. Exiting..."

This also repeats on the MMC script

Maybe xoblite or even bbleam would be a good shell to use in lack of the explorer one..

At last it complains about not finding mkisofs on the proper folder - I think this might be related to the fact that I use spaces on my paths - perhaps this project should be tested under these conditions - including non-ascii characters on folder names like "ã"

An error also appeared complaing about the lack of mkisofs.exe

Last but not least - Virtual Box needed to be installed prior to creating a project - I already it was needed to do it, but most users won't know how to do this - isn't there any way to automate this download and install since it's open source now?

Here's this project log:
Attached File  log.html   1015.4KB   567 downloads

---------------------------------------------------------

Second try:

Moved winbuilder folder to a root C:\ without spaces on path name.

Added mkisofs.exe inside the tools folder - so I'm not sure if the previous error complaing the lack of mkisofs was not related to spaces on the path name.

Installed Virtual Box and tried again..

Both Vista explorer and MMC complained about missing files, but after this the project was built without any further errors and VistaPE is finally loading..

innotek has created a very good emulator.

Great work Nightman!! :P

Hope this small review can help you debugging further the project and others to know how to get started..

:P

Yes, if you link to the original Innotek Server, no if you link to a copy of it, according to license you cannot redistribute it:

Yep, it's very strange that a Portuguese has such a charming approach to understatements, that are typical of the Anglo-Saxon world, as an Italian, and Latin as well, I would call them nightmares....:P

I apreciate your comment and hope that perhaps one day I can achieve an excellent verbose level such as yours - this is one of my own personal goals and will try to gather enough experience to see such a day arrive inspired by your example..

Please excuse me for the mentioned understatement, just tried to avoid long descriptions and will make an effort to post more complete topics where others can follow back to the sources from where I base my comments.

I thought the goal of this project was to create a VistaPE, without that one has to have Vista? :P

ReactOS explorer is too buggy to be used - I've been trying the most recent releases and it still pretty much crashes with frequency.

One option I've been considering however, is using cygwin and the gnome desktop: http://cygnome.sourceforge.net/

Hi,

here is my own WAIK-project. I tested it with WinBuilder 053 -beta 13. You need to have Microsoft WAIK installed and point your %SourceDir% to it e.g. "C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools"

Apps are not included because of the size. Microsofts Explorer.exe is missing. This doesnt make the Apps unuseable - but simply not perfect. If anyone has an idea on how to fix that. I would love to hear it.

Feel free to modify the scripts and build your own version. If you can wait, there will be a bigger version with apps soon. And dont forget Nightmans VistaPE which probably has some advantages.

Greets,
Valentin

PS.: Simply extract the RAR-file into your PROJECT-folder.
